Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Augustine of Hippo (Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount (De Sermone Domini in Monte), Book II, Chapter 6)
“In the next place there follows, Your kingdom come. Just as the Lord Himself teaches in the Gospel that the day of judgment will take place at the very time when the gospel shall have been preached among all nations: a thing which belongs to the hallowing of God’s name. For here also the expression Your kingdom come is not used in such a way as if God were not now reigning. But some one perhaps might say the expression come meant upon earth; as if, indeed, He were not even now really reigning upon earth, and had not always reigned upon it from the foundation of the world. Come, therefore, is to be understood in the sense of manifested to men. For in the same way also as a light which is present is absent to the blind, and to those who shut their eyes; so the kingdom of God, though it never departs from the earth, is yet absent to those who are ignorant of it. But no one will be allowed to be ignorant of the kingdom of God, when His Only-begotten shall come from heaven, not only in a way to be apprehended by the understanding, but also visibly in the person of the Divine Man, in order to judge the quick and the dead. And after that judgment, i.e. when the process of distinguishing and separating the righteous from the unrighteous has taken place, God will so dwell in the righteous, that there will be no need for any one being taught by man, but all will be, as it is written, taught of God.”
God has set the boundaries and the times of the nations (Deuteronomy 32:8-9; Acts 17:26). God has given set times to the nations with opportunity to accept His authority or to reject it. Christ reigns in heaven (Matthew 28:18; Psalm 110:1; 1 Peter 3:22; Hebrews 2:8), given time for the nations to subject themselves to Him (1 Corinthians 15:25) through the message of His church (Ephesians 1:20-23). Christ’s rule will culminate in His return. Each nation is called to turn to Him now (Acts 17:30-31; Psalm 2:10-12; Isaiah 45:22; 2 Peter 3:9).
Act 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
Act 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Act 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
Act 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Act 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
All nations that He has made will come and worship Him (Psalm 86:9). Nations in Greek is εθνος ‘ethnos’ which is a cognate of εθος ‘ethos.’ Εθος ‘Ethos’ (customs, habits, character) makes cultures which make nations (εθνος ‘ethnos’). In other words, a nation (εθνος ‘ethnos’) is a group defined by shared customs, habits, and way of life (εθος ‘ethos’).
Act 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations (εθνος ‘ethnos’) of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
Psa 86:9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.
Everything in creation, land, language, customs, religion and culture cast shadows of the Messiah, the perfect Image of the Father (Romans 11:36). Every culture and nation has the Gospel embedded within in varying degrees.
God is currently drawing men (John 12:32) to Himself for His name (Acts 15:14) as a holy nation (1 Peter 1:1; 2:9-10; Romans 1:5), as lights in the midst of corrupted nations (Philippians 2:15; Psalm 18:49; Romans 15:9-12). In His timing, all cultures and nations will “remember” and turn to Him (Psalm 22:27).
Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Rev 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
Rev 7:11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
Rev 7:12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
All flesh shall come (Psalm 65:2), worshiping and praising Him (Psalm 66:4; 72:11; 86:9; 96:9) and bowing the knee to the Lord Jesus Christ (Isaiah 45:22-25; Romans 14:9-13; Philippians 2:1-16). Every creature shall honor and serve Him (Revelation 5:13; Daniel 7:13-14).
God has placed eternity in the heart of every person (Ecclesiastes 3:11). This innate awareness of the Eternal, the Divine, and our origin in Him is a universal “primal memory” or longing that no culture or religion can fully erase. It is the reason why, across religion and throughout history, we find echoes of Biblical truth. Stories of a supreme Creator, a lost paradise, a coming Redeemer, sacrifice for peace, and a longing to return to the one true God.
Land and culture are deeply intertwined. The physical territory people inhabit shapes their customs, values, economy, identity, and worldview, while culture in turn transforms the land through cultivation, settlement, naming, and stewardship.
Country comes from the Middle English ‘contre’ which means “region, district, native land.” This word traces back further to the Latin word ‘contra’ which means “opposite, against, facing,” as one country is the landscape that one is facing as well as the land behind.
All cultures and countries come from God. Mankind in their fallen state have corrupted pure culture given by God but within every culture are shadows of Messiah, redemptive analogies which lead man back to the Lord.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Him (Psalm 22:27). Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11). God meets us where we are at through general revelation, cultural and “seeds of the Word,” so that no one is left without a witness.
Believers are looking for that Heavenly country. Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). We are to live by an heavenly ethos (Hebrews 11:1-15).
Eph 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Eph 3:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
Php 3:20 For our conversation (πολίτευμα ‘politeuma’) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
πολιτευμα ‘politeuma’ meant citizenship from πολιτης ‘polites’ which means citizen and the suffix μα ‘ma’ which indicates the result or thing itself. It comes from the root πόλις ‘polis’ which means a city or state. The idea is that citizenship came with rights, privileges and responsibilities of being a citizen. By extension, it meant the manner of life or conduct of a citizen.
The old ethos
Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation (ἀναστροφή ‘anastrophē’) the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
ἀναστροφή
anastrophē
Thayer Definition:
- manner of life, conduct, behaviour, deportment
The Heavenly Ethos
2Co 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation (ἀναστροφή ‘anastrophē’) in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (ἀναστροφή ‘anastrophē’);
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
1Pe 3:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation (ἀναστροφή ‘anastrophē’) in Christ.
All nations and all cultures are invited to join the culture of Heaven through Christ Jesus.
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Luk 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Rom 16:24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Rom 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
Rom 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
On this page I hope to share studies of the different cultures of the world and how they point to Christ from shadows of Messiah in holidays and cultures to the history of the Church.

At the center of the Bible is Psalm 117. The Bible has 1,189 chapters total; Psalm 117 is the 595th chapter, with 594 chapters before it and 594 after it. This Psalm calls for all nations and people to praise the Lord.
Psa 117:1 O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
Psa 117:2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.
