Christ in the Dictionary

The English word ‘dictionary’ comes from the Latin ‘dictionarius’ which means “of words” from the word ‘dictio’/’diction’ which means “word”. ‘Diction’ means “expression of ideas in words” from the Latin ‘dicere’ which means to “speak, tell, or say”, said to come from the Proto-Indo-European root ‘deik’ which means to “point out”. A cognate is the Sanskrit word ‘dic’ which means to “point out” or “show” and is related to the Greek word ‘deiknynai’ which means to “prove” and the Latin word ‘digitus’ which means “finger”. The Old English word ‘tæcan ‘ is related as well which means “to teach”. All of this connections point to the Hebrew word תרוה ‘torah’ which has an identical meaning. The תרוה ‘torah’ has the meaning of the instructions/teaching of God.

Christ is the Word made flesh (John 1:14)…all words point back to Him.
