The groundhog represents the ‘earth mother’ who ‘hibernates’ during the 3 months of winter. This is a counterfeit of Messiah and His bride whose resurrection comes after 3 days. The vain customs of the heathen were corruptions of truths found in the Word. Glimmers of light that the Most High embedded within their traditions so that when the Truth was/is revealed (Ephesians 3:4-6; 1:9-10, 18) that those with eyes to see and ears to hear would know and believe.
Mat 12:40 And even as “Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights,” so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. Jon. 1:17
Hos 6:1 Come and let us return to YHWH. For He has torn, and He will heal us. He has stricken, and He will bind us up.
Hos 6:2 After two days He will bring us to life. In the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live before Him.
Hos 6:3 Then we shall know, we who follow on to know YHWH. His going forth is established as the dawn. And He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.
Jerusalem is likened unto a mother
Gal 4:26 but the Jerusalem from above is free, who is the mother of us all;
She is the bride

The ‘earth mother’ is said to be the bridge between winter and spring, or life and death. This is a counterfeit of Messiah.

Psa 68:20 Our God is the God of salvation; and to YHWH the Lord are the issues of death.

Heb 9:15 And because of this He is Mediator of a new covenant, so that, death having occurred for redemption of transgressions under the first covenant, those being called might receive the promise of the everlasting inheritance.
The ‘earth mother’ represents the cycle of rebirth and renewal which comes during Spring. Ancient customs link the groundhog or snake coming out of its hole during Spring as the ‘day of the bride.’
A Scottish rhyme about the Feast Day of Bride begins:

The queen will come from the mound…

Groundhog’s day is also known as St. Brigid’s day. Brigid means the exalted one. This is pointing to Messiah & His bride.
Exo 15:2 My strength and song is YHWH, and it happened, He was to me salvation; this is my God and I will glorify Him; the God of my father, and I will exalt Him.
Psa 118:28 You are my God, and I will exalt You; My God, I will thank You!
1Pe 5:6 Then be humbled under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in time;
Jas 4:10 Be humbled before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
Psa 37:34 Wait on YHWH and keep His way; and He shall exalt you to inherit the earth; you shall see when the wicked are cut off.
In ancient times, Groundhog’s day was known as ‘Imbolc.’ Imbolc literally means ‘ewes milk.’ Interestingly, Psalm 34 links the Exalted One with the milk of the Word.
Psa 34:3 O magnify YHWH with me; and let us exalt His name together.
Psa 34:8 Taste and see that YHWH is good; blessed is the man seeking refuge in Him.
1Pe 2:2 as newborn babes desire the pure soul-nourishing milk, that you may grow by it;
1Pe 2:3 if indeed you “tasted” “that the Lord is good;” LXX-Psa. 33:9; MT-Psa. 34:8
The Catholic Church ‘baptized’ this festival with ‘Christian themes’ and calls it candlemass, the feast of the purification of the Virgin. Interestingly, as seen in a previous tidbit, the month of February means purificationclick here. Light is associated with purity through the crushed olives used for the menorah. It was called ‘pure oil’ (1 Kings 5:11).
Groundhogs are diggers that live in burrows. The word burrow comes from the Hebrew word בר ‘bar’ which means pure. בר is also translated as the Son (Psalm 2:12). The groundhog is a picture of Messiah & His bodyclick here.
