The English word weather derives from wind which traces back to the Hebrew word ‘ruach’ which means Spirit.
E-Word – Isaac Mozeson pg 374
“Severe weather is a major use of German heftig.”
‘Heftig’ has the meaning of heavy, hefty, fierce, severe, violent, intense, stormy, ferocious. It traces back to the Hebrew word כבד ‘kavod’ which means heavy or glory.
The English word ‘weather’ also traces back to the Hebrew word פנה ‘panah’ which means a turn, in specific of the face. The Hebrew word face ‘panah/paniym’ comes from this word.
Both פנה ‘face/turning’ and כבד ‘glory/weight’ point to Messiah Jesus who is the manifestation of the Presence of YHWH.
Messiah Jesus is the ‘Face’ of YHWH (2 Corinthians 4:6; Psalm 42:5; 44:3-4; Isaiah 63:9; Hebrews 1:3; 2 Corinthians 4:4-6; Colossian 1:12-16).
Messiah Jesus is the Glory of YHWH
It is no surprise then that the Scriptures speak of severe weather as shadow pictures of YHWH.
The Whirlwind (Tornadoes & Hurricanes)
It was through the whirlwind that YHWH spoke to Job (Job 38:1).
The Hebrew word for whirlwind in this verse is:

![]()
The eye of the storm

Hos 8:7 For they sow the wind, and they reap the whirlwind. He has no stalk; the bud shall make no flour. If it does make it, strangers will swallow it up.
The Hebrew word for whirlwind in this verse is:

This comes from the root:

Turning/returning to the mouth from whence comes the Word. Sinai means a thorn as well. The thorn that turned Yisrael to the mouth/Word. The word for book/scroll ‘saphar’ comes from this root word as well. At Mt. Sinai when YHWH gave the 10 commandments, extreme weather was seen.
Exo 19:16 And on the third day, it being morning, it happened: There were thunders and lightnings, and a heavy cloud on the mountain, and the sound of a ram’s horn, very strong! And all the people in the camp trembled.
Exo 19:17 And Moses caused the people to go up from the camp to meet God. And they took their stand at the lower part of the mountain.
Exo 19:18 And the mountain of Sinai was smoking, all of it, because YHWH came down on it in fire. And its smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace; and the mountain quaked exceedingly.
Fear & Spinning. The above two words for whirlwinds connect the idea of fear and spinning. It is interesting that at Mt. Sinai when Yisrael heard the voice of God it was connected with fear. Waters and rain are also related to fear in the Hebrew language.

One of the words in Hebrew for rain is יר, which means to throw, as in rain or an arrow (lightning). This is the same root in Hebrew for fear, ירא ‘yare,’ and the Torah. Amazingly, the voice of God is described as many waters {Ezekiel 43:2} as well as thunder {Job 40:9; Revelation 14:2}.
Spinning/stirring of the insides is related to fear and trouble. Interestingly, the root of this word בל bal, is the same root for yobel/horn. מבול Mabul, which is the word for Flood comes from this same root as well.
Tabernacle connection

The word for the Tabernacle of meeting in Hebrew is ohel moed. Moed is translated as feasts/congregation/meeting. The picture of עד is repeating cycles of meeting at a tent door. The feasts are linked with the Temple & Time.
In Genesis 28:12, Jacob was shown the ladder to heaven. This ladder corresponds to DNA which is a twisting helix. In verse 17 of this portion of Scripture, Jacob speaks of this has the House of God (BethEl) and says surely this is a fearful place. Again, the connection to fear and twisting is seen. Jacob also describes this as the ‘door/gate’ to Heaven. In John 1:51, Messiah speaks of this ladder as Himself, and in John 10:9, Messiah refers to Himself as the door. The word for gate and the word for whirlwind is further related. Gate is spelled שער, and whirlwind is spelled סער. Hebrew letters that sound the same are related. Furthermore, the word for gate, שער sha’ar is sometimes translated as ‘mouth’ as in the mouth to a city. Amazingly, the other word for whirlwind as mentioned in Hosea 8:7 is סופה ‘sopha’ which literally means a devouring mouth. ‘Saphaph’ is from the same root as ‘sopha’ and means door.
Floods
Psa 29:3 The voice of YHWH is on the waters; the God of glory thunders; YHWH is above many waters.
Psa 29:10 YHWH sits upon the flood; yea, YHWH sits as King forever.
2Pe 3:5 For this is hidden from them by their willing it so, that heavens were of old, and earth by water, and through water, having subsisted by the Word of God,
2Pe 3:6 through which the world which then was, being flooded by water, perished.
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth now, having been stored up by the same Word, are being kept for fire to a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
Rain
The study of weather is known as meteorology which traces back to the Hebrew word מטר ‘matar’ which means rain. Rain is an amazing shadow picture that points to Messiah Jesus .
גשם comes from the root שם which means breathe/character/name.
His Name is His Word
Rev 19:13 and having been clothed in a garment which had been dipped in blood. And His name is called The Word of God.
Interestingly, גשם ‘geshem’ is translated as ‘body’ 5 times in the Scriptures (Daniel 4:33; 5:21; 7:11 & 3:27-28)
Heb 10:5 For this reason, coming into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but You prepared a body for Me.
Heb 10:6 You did not delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices concerning sins.”
Heb 10:7 “Then I said, Lo, I come, in the heading of the Book it was written concerning Me, to do Your will, O God.” LXX-Psa. 39:7 -9; MT-Psa. 40:6 -8
The Torah is likened unto rain
The root word for Torah has the meaning of rain
1Ki 8:36 then You shall hear in Heaven, and shall forgive the sin of Your servants, and of Your people Israel, for You shall teach (H3384) them the good way in which they shall go, and shall give rain on Your land which You have given to Your

Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Coming in the clouds
Rev 1:7 “Behold, He comes with the clouds,” and “every eye will see Him, and the ones who pierced” Him, and all the tribes of the earth “will wail on account of Him.” Yes, Amen. Dan. 7:13; Zech. 12:10
