Daily Tidbits 8/10/26 – Herbert Hoover

On this date, 8/10/1874, Herbert Hoover was born. In the Presidents Code, Hoover’s Presidency displays Israel dwelling in the land of Egypt during the days of Joseph and their going into slavery after Joseph’s death. The Presidents Code is a parable based upon the name meanings of the U.S. Presidents. Their name meanings tell the story of the Biblical text, from the beginning of creation unto the days of Christ. Based upon the premise of this code, it is seen that the very characters of the Presidents, from their personal characters to the events that occurred during their Presidencies reveal in parable form the exact same events of the Biblical narrative of which their name meanings describe. In other words, the history of the United States is displaying a giant parable of the Word of God.

The 1928 Election saw Herbert Hoover win a landslide, a third consecutive landslide win by the Republicans. Calvin Coolidge declined to run for re-election but his popularity and the booming economy catapulted Hoover into an easy victory. At this point in the code, Israel thrived in Goshen (Exodus 1:7) corresponding with this period of prosperity in America.

During his acceptance speech Hoover said “We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of this land… We shall soon with the help of God be in sight of the day when poverty will be banished from this land.” The Great Depression would soon occur thereafter pointing to Israel’s days in slavery.

Herbert Hoover’s name meaning is speaking of the ‘army of the Lord’ dwelling in the land of Egypt during the days of Joseph and their going into slavery after Joseph’s death.

Herbert is a Germanic name which derives from ‘hari’ meaning army and ‘beraht’ meaning bright. A bright army.

Clark comes from the word ‘cleric’ which means a ‘scribe’ from the Old English word‘clerec’ which originally meant a priest. Here is a depiction of an army of priests who bear the Word. Scripture defines this as Israel.

Exodus 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.
Psalm 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

The Hebrew word for company in Psalm 68:11 is צבא ‘tseba’ which literally means an army.

Hoover comes from the German name Huber meaning a ‘large measure of land.’ Here we see Israel, the ‘bright army’ of ‘scribes’ or carriers of the Word, dwelling in a large measure of land in Egypt. However, they would go into slavery before this priesthood could come forth where they would need to go to Sinai to learn God’s Word. They would first become poor before they became great (Psalm 68:10-11).

Herbert Hoover’s Presidency is defined by the Great Depression that struck the United States in 1929, the first year of his Presidency. This Depression links to the going down of Israel into Egypt during the famine and living with Joseph where they would later become slaves (Exodus 1:10-14). The Hebrew word for depression is אנה ‘anah’ which means to be brought low or humbled. This is associated in Scripture with famine and fasting (Psalm 35:13) as well as the affliction of slavery (Exodus 1:11).

Hoover’s name is speaking of the ‘army of priests’ mentioned in Psalm 68:11. Amazingly, the Scripture defines them as ‘poor’ or ‘depressed.’

Psalm 68:10 Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.
Psalm 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

The Hebrew word used here for poor is אני ‘aneey’ which means depressed or brought low and comes from the above mentioned word אנה ‘anah.’

Further linking the Depression of Hoover’s Presidency and the days of Joseph is Psalm 69.

Psalm 69:29 But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

The word for poor in this verse is also עני ‘aneey.’ The word in Hebrew for salvation in the above verse is ישועה ‘yeshuah.’ This is pointing to Joseph, a picture of Jesus Christ whose name in Hebrew, ‘Yeshua,’ comes from this word. It is the Lord’s salvation that Jacob sought when he sent his sons down to Egypt for bread, and then later followed them thereto.

Psalm 69:32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

The word humble in verse 32 is ענב ‘anav’ which also comes from the same root word mentioned above meaning depressed.

Here we see Jacob who sought God and was delivered from death (Genesis 42:2; 43:8). Israel lived and flourished in the land of Egypt until the days of the Pharaoh who ‘knew not Joseph.’ It was the Great Depression that brought about the Franklin Roosevelt administration, whose days speak of this Pharaoh.

Herbert Hoover’s life before becoming President links to the Patriarch Joseph. Hoover was orphaned at age nine, just as Joseph was separated from his father at an early age (Genesis 37:28; 49:26). Hoover worked as a civil engineer which led him to travel abroad, just as Joseph ‘traveled abroad’ to Egypt (Psalm 105:17).

Hoover was a mining engineer which also links to Joseph. The Hebrew word for mining is כרה ‘karah’ which means to hollow out or dig out something. This word is also speaking of preparing provision (2 Kings 6:23), as Joseph was set up as ruler of Egypt to prepare provision for the people of the land. Interestingly, the word for furnace in Hebrew is כור ‘kur’ which is a cognate of כרה ‘karah.’ Scripture describes Egypt as an iron furnace (Deuteronomy 4:20; Jeremiah 11:4).

Continuing with the Hoover – Joseph connection are the numerous roles that Herbert Hoover played as a humanitarian. During World War I, Woodrow Wilson appointed Herbert Hoover as the head of the U.S. Food Administration. Hoover believed that ‘food will win the war’ and encouraged people to avoid particular foods on certain days of the week in order to save them for soldiers’ rations. After the war, Hoover provided aid to Germany and sent relief to areas of Russia which were affected by famine during their days.

By the end of the war, Hoover was declared one of the ‘Ten Most Important Living Americans’ by the New York Times. This links Hoover to Joseph who became one of the most important figures in the world due to his providing of food during the famine.

Gen 41:40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

Gen 45:8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

The Dust Bowl occurred during Hoover’s Presidency pointing to the famine which was in the land during the days of Joseph and Israel growing in multiplying in Egypt. Scriptures likens this multiplying as Israel being “as the dust” (Genesis 13:16; 28:14; Numbers 23:10). It is because of this multiplying in numbers that the Pharaoh who knew not Joseph put them into slavery.

Exo 1:6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
Exo 1:7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
Exo 1:8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
Exo 1:9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
Exo 1:10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
Exo 1:11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
Exo 1:12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

The word afflict in Exodus 1:12 is from the Hebrew word ענה ‘anah’ which is the word mentioned previously that means depression or to be brought low.

The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 raised tariffs to support U.S. farmers and industry but it backfired as other nations retaliated with higher tariffs as well which worsened the Depression and caused global trade to collapse and worsened the worldwide Depression. This gave rise to Adolf Hitler who pictures the Pharaoh who knew not Joseph in the parable.

Joseph sold grain to the Egyptians during the famine and when they ran out of means to pay they sold themselves into slavery to Pharaoh (Genesis 41:55-57; 47:13-27). Meanwhile, Joseph was providing for Israel in Goshen where they became prosperous (Genesis 47:12, 27). When Joseph died the heart of Pharaoh was turned against Israel because of this. So too, Hoover sought to help the American people through tariffs but in reality made their situation worse and ultimately led to World War II.

In 1932 the Bonus Army March occurred in which World War I veterans marched on D.C. demanding early payment of their promised service bonuses which were originally due in 1945. They sought relief during the Depression. Hoover refused to meet them and ordered the Army to evict them. Troops used gas, bayonets and tanks to clear the camps that were set up. This seems to point to the army of the Lord being put under taskmasters by Pharaoh (Exodus 1:11-14).

The Depression that occurred in America during Hoover’s days paved the way for a new Party system which formed around Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal. This corresponds with the transition in the Biblical narrative from the life of Joseph to the time period of the evil Pharaoh who enslaved Israel causing them to cry out to God for a deliverer.
