Daily Tidbits 4/22 – 2nd Month Ziv/Iyar

The 2nd month of the year in the Biblical calendar is known as זו ‘ziv’ which means brightness or splendor, in reference to the strengthening sun of Spring and the ‘splendor of flowers’ as the Targum calls it. The 2nd month is also referred to as איר ‘Iyar’ which has a similar meaning.

The building of the Temple.
1Ki 6:1  And it happened in the four hundred and eightieth year from the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in the fourth year, in the month of Zif, it is the second month, in the reigning of Solomon over Israel he built the house for YHWH.
1Ki 6:37  The house of YHWH was founded in the fourth year, in the month of Zif.
On the first day of Iyar, King Solomon began the construction of the First Temple

On the same month, hundreds of years later, construction of the Second Temple began (Ezra 3:8).

זו is used 13 times in Scripture (H2097 1 time and H2098 12 times), linking back to the tribes of Israel, who are His temple/house.

Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph 2:19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; {recall that the word זוית which comes from זו means the corner of a building}
Eph 2:21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Eph 5:30  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Eph 5:31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Eph 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Isa 43:21  This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

Exo 15:13  Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.
Exo 15:16  Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.
Exo 15:17  Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
Exo 15:18  The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.

His body
Isa 42:24  Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

13 is also the numerical value of the Hebrew word אחד ‘echad’ which means ‘one.’  The 2nd month of the year further links to His body in unity as the 2nd letter of the Aleph – Bet is ב ‘bet’ which means house.

IYYAR
Iyar in Hebrew is אִייָר or אִיָּר, said to trace back to the Akkadian ayyaru, meaning ‘Rosette’; ‘blossom.’
איר ‘iyar’ ultimately traces back to the Hebrew word אר which means ‘light.’  אור ‘ohr’ which means light has the numerical equivalent of 207 which corresponds with the Greek phrase εν δοζη ‘en doxa’ which means ‘in glory.’

2Co 4:6  Because it is God who said, “Out of darkness Light shall shine,” who shone in our hearts to give the brightness of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Isa. 42:6, 7, 16
