Daily Tidbits 5/4 – Laminin

daily tidbits laminin

laminin

Laminin is a cell adhesion protein molecule found in the ‘extracellular matrix,’ the sheets of protein that form the substrate of all internal organs also called the ‘basement membrane.’ Laminin is vital to making sure overall body structures hold together. {Wikipedia.org}

The word ‘laminin’ comes from the Latin ‘lamina.’

‘Lamina’ means a “thin piece of metal or wood, thin slice, plate, leaf, layer.” Laminin is a ‘basal membrane’ or ‘thin layer.’

The connection to a leaf is interesting as laminin pictures the crucifixion, which occurred on a tree (1 Peter 1:24; Acts 5:30; 10:39; 13:29; Galatians 3:13).

The word leaf can speak of the leaf of a plant or a page on a book. Interestingly, the word for parchment is used in the New Testament (2 Timothy 4:13) as a translation of the Greek word membrane.

Papyrus sheets were glued together to form a scroll.  The Greek word for papyrus as writing material (βιβλίον ‘biblion’) and book (βίβλος ‘biblos’) come from the Phoenician port town Byblos, through which papyrus was exported to Greece.

The word ‘Bible’ in English comes from the Hebrew word אבוב ‘avoov’ which means a pipe and is also the source of the word papyrus which ancient Bibles were written upon.  אבוב ‘avoov’ comes from the root אב ‘av’ which means father.

אב ‘av‘ has the meaning of a pole.  In English, the word ‘pole’ comes from the Old English pal which traces back to the Latin ‘palus,’ which literally means a stake.  The English word ‘pale’ derives from this word.  ‘Pale’ means to fix or fasten and is related to the English word ‘pact.’  A pact is an agreement, treaty, compact which comes from the Latin word pactum which means a contract/covenant.  A covenant through a pole/stake…  Here we see אב ‘av,’ the first word of the Hebrew alphabet pointing to the most important event in human history, the crucifixion of Jesus, and the New Covenant (Isaiah 42:6; Matthew 26:28)  in His blood which restores mankind back to the Father.

Laminin – Word of the Cross

laminin3

Laminin is in the form of a cross, in particular the ‘caduceus‘ form which displays the serpent on a pole, of which Messiah became to draw all mankind to Himself (John 3:14; 12:32).

In the wilderness Israel was healed through looking upon the serpent on a pole.  This was a figure of being saved through ‘looking’ upon the Messiah on the cross/tree.

Num 21:9  And Moses made a serpent of bronze and put it on a pole; and it happened, if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.

Joh 3:14  And even as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
Joh 3:15  that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Messiah gathers mankind through the cross.

Joh 10:11 I am the Good Shepherd! The Good Shepherd lays down His life on behalf of the sheep.
Joh 10:14 I am the Good Shepherd, and I know those that are Mine, and I am known by the ones that are Mine.
Joh 10:15 Even as the Father knows Me, I also know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
Joh 10:16 And I have other sheep which are not of this fold. I must also lead those, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock, one Shepherd.
Joh 10:17 For this reason My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life, that I may take it again.
Eph 2:11 Because of this, remember that you, the nations, were then in the flesh (those having been called Uncircumcision by those having been called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands)
Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers of the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
Eph 2:13 But now, in Christ Jesus you who then were afar off, came to be near by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14 For He is our peace, He making us both one, and breaking down the middle wall of partition,
Eph 2:15 in His flesh causing to cease the enmity, the Law of the commandments in decrees, that He might in Himself create the two into one new man, making peace,
Eph 2:16 and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, slaying the enmity in Himself.
Eph 2:17 And coming, He proclaimed “peace to you, the ones afar off, and to the ones near.” Isa. 57:19
Eph 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Eph 2:19 So, then, you are no longer strangers and tenants, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and of the family of God,
Eph 2:20 being built up on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the cornerstone,
Eph 2:21 in whom all the building being fitted together grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
Eph 2:22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Isaiah prophesied of this exact occurrence which comes forth from the crucifixion of Messiah. Amazingly, the word for ‘cleave’ is Isaiah 14 where this is prophesied of is ספח ‘saphach’ which is the origin of the word crucifixion.

Isa 14:1 For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself.

Further connecting this concept is the etymology of the word crucifixion which comes from the Hebrew ספח ‘saphach’ which means to gather or join together.

The word ‘draw’ in this verse is ἑλκύω ‘helkuo’ which means to “draw by inward power”. This is the function of laminin.

“Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.”

Laminin is defined by the Webster Medical Dictionary as a “glycoprotein that is a component of connective tissue basement membrane and that promotes cell adhesion.”

Laminin is the  “Cell Adhesion Molecule”, the “glue” that holds the body together.  Its cell binding properties hold our cells and muscles together in our bodies.
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

The word ‘consist’ is translated from the Greek word συνίστημι ‘sunistemi’ which means to band together, to stand together.

Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

συνίστημι ‘sunistemi’ is used in the Septuagint to translate the Hebrew word קהל ‘qahal’ which is equivalent with the word church.

Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

1 Corinthians 1:18 connects the Word of His power with the Word of the cross.

1Co_1:18 For the preaching {λόγος ‘logos’ – Word} of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Jay P. Green Literal Version

1Co 1:18 For the Word of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God.

The Hebrew word כח ‘koach’ which means power has a numerical value of 28. 28 is also linked to the cross. The letter ת is a picture of the cross. ת is spelled as תו which consists of ת the 22nd letter of the Hebrew alphabet and ו ‘vav’ the 6th letter giving the total of 28.

The Greek word for Passover, πάσχα ‘pascha,’ is translated as Passover 28 times in the New Testament. Messiah became our Passover on the cross (1 Corinthians 5:7; Isaiah 53:7; John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:19; Revelation 5:6, 12).

The תו ‘tav’ – Passover connection is further seen in Ezekiel 9.

Eze 9:4  And YHWH said to him, Pass through in the midst of the city, in the midst of Jerusalem, and mark a mark {תו ‘tav’} on the foreheads of the men who are groaning and are mourning over all the abominations that are done in her midst.
Eze 9:5  And He said to those in my hearing, Pass over in the city after him and strike. Do not let your eye spare, and do not have pity.

The Hebrew word for ‘pass over’ in verse 5 is עבר ‘avar.’

עבר ‘avar’ is the root of the word עברי ‘ivri’ which is translated as ‘Hebrew.’

The Hebrew word for the Hebrew language is עברית ‘ivrit.’  עברית comes from the root בר which means ‘pure.’  Hebrew breaks down pictographically as thus:

ע ayin means to see
בר bet-resh is the word for Son
י yod is a hand
ת tav is a cross

The pictographs of the word עברית ‘ivrit’ means to ‘see the Son with hands on the cross.’  The Hebrew language was designed to reveal the Gospel.  It is through the work of Messiah on the cross that all mankind is brought back to the Father.

Laminin is a “cell adhesion protein molecule”.  The English word protein traces back to the Hebrew word עבר ‘avar’ which is from whence the word ‘Hebrew’ עברית ‘ivrit’ comes from. Protein comes from the Greek word ‘protos’ which comes from this word עבר ‘avar.’

E-Word Dictionary – Isaac Mozeson pg 312

The Word of the cross, the power of God, the Word of Truth.

2Co_6:7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

In Hebrew, truth is equated with faith. The Hebrew word which connects these two concepts together is אמן ‘amen’/אמונה ’emunah’ which literally means a firm support. This is interesting to note as laminin is described as a ‘basal membrane’ or foundation membrane which holds our cells together.

Basal Membrane

basal membrane
Basal means “relating to a base” which is the bottom or foundation. The word ‘base’ comes from the Greek word βάσις ‘basis’. This word is etymologically related to the English word ‘abase‘ which means to lower to the bottom.

Php 2:5  For think this within you, which mind was also in Christ Jesus,
Php 2:6  who subsisting in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God,
Php 2:7  but emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave, having become in the likeness of men
Php 2:8  and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, having become obedient until death, even the death of a cross.
Php 2:9  Because of this also God highly exalted Him and gave Him a name above every name,
Php 2:10  that at the name of Jesus “every knee should bow,” of heavenly ones, and earthly ones, and ones under the earth,
Php 2:11  and “every tongue should confess” that Jesus Christ is “Lord,” to the glory of God the Father.
Isa. 45:23

Basal/base means the foundation.  Jesus is the Foundation.  Amazingly, Scripture links Jesus as our foundation upon whom the whole body is connected together.

1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Isa 28:16 So, the Lord YHWH says this: Behold, I place in Zion a Stone for a foundation, a tried Stone, a precious Cornerstone, a sure Foundation; he who believes shall not hasten.

The word membrane comes from the Latin word ‘membrana’ which means a think skin or film membrane. It can mean the skin of a snake or the skin prepared to write on a parchment like a scroll.

This membrane, parchment connection is seen in 2 Timothy 4:13.

2Ti 4:13 When you come, bring the cloak which I left in Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments (μεμβράνα ‘membrana’).

It is interesting that ‘membrana’ also connects to the snake as laminin is a picture of the Word of the Cross in which Messiah became a serpent on a tree.

Laminin Sword

laminin sword

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The marrow in our bones is where blood is produced.  Blood is connected to DNA in which the ‘image’ of the parents is passed down to children.

Blood (DNA) = image, resemblance

The genetic information that is read by the ribosomes determines what will be formed.  Interestingly, tracing back the word ‘information’ brings forth the same concept.  The English word ‘information’ comes from the Latin word ‘informare’ which means to shape, form, train, instruct, educate, etc.  Informare breaks down from ‘in’ meaning into and ‘forma’ meaning a form.  The English word form comes from the Old French word ‘forme’ which means a physical form, appearance, shape, image etc.  This traces to the Latin word ‘forma’ which further traces to the Greek word μορφή ‘morphe’ meaning form, beauty, outward appearance.

This word μορφή ‘morphe’ is interesting as it is used in only a few places in the New Testament, all of which are referring to Messiah (Mark 16:12; Philippians 2:6-7; Galatians 4:19).  μορφή ‘morphe’ comes from the root μέρος ‘meros’ which means the constituent parts of a whole.  Combining small parts to make an image, this describes DNA becoming protein (image) very well.  μορφή  ‘morphe’ is used to translate multiple words, all of which link to the current study.

G3444
morphe     H2122    ziv – an image that stands out
morphe     H6754    tselem – shadow, image
morphe     H8389    toar – mark or image, discussed in greater detail above.
morphe     H8403    tavnit – image, pattern- the word used for pattern in reference to the Tabernacle/Temple of YHWH.  The Tabernacle/Temple of YHWH is a picture of Messiah and His body.

morphe     H8544    temunah – Image, form- the root of this word is ‘מן’ which means ‘living waters/blood’ usually translated as type or kind which is linked to the passing of genes from father to son through ‘the blood.’

Ribose {deoxyribonucleic acid} comes from the Hebrew word חלב ‘chalav’ which is one of two words translated as ‘marrow.’ חלב ‘chalav’ is related to gum and the Hebrew word גמא ‘gome.’ These all connect DNA & the Word. גמא ‘gome’ is the source for papyrus/paper and the Bible (Exodus 2:3).

The ribosomes ‘read’ the 22 amino acids in order to form proteins. Ribosomes are a picture of Scribes.

The word ribosome comes from ribose which is a ‘sugar’ that is formed from ‘gum arabic.’ Tracing back this word gum brings forth some interesting connections to scribes. Gum arabic comes forth from the acacia tree mentioned above and is used in the process of making ink for ancient Torah scrolls. In the Scriptures, gum comes forth from חלבנה ‘chalvanah.’ This is translated as ‘galbanum’ as in Exodus 30:34.

Laminin is a Glycoprotein which functions as a binder between cell walls.  Glyco comes from the Greek word γλυκύς ‘glukus’ which means sweet.

The Word is likened unto ‘sugar.’

Psa 135:3  praise Yah! For YHWH is good! Sing praises to His name, for it is delightful.

The word ‘delightful’ in the Hebrew is נעם ‘na’am’ which means pleasant, delightful, beautiful, sweet.

The Hebrew word for ‘their delicacies’ in Psalm 141:3 is מנעמיהם ‘manamayhem’ which literally means ‘their sweets.’  This word is closely related to נעים ‘naiym’ which also means sweet, pleasant or beautiful. נעים  ‘naiym’  is used in reference to the name of God in Psalm 135:3.  Scripture equates His Name with His Word (Revelation 19:13)…this is the sweet delicacy we are to seek.  In nature the same thing can be seen.  The sugars of fruits and the sweetness of honey which God created are good for our bodies, in moderation as you said…the sugars that man creates are detrimental.

The Oracles/Word of God is to be in our mouth (1 Peter 4:11) which are sweet (Psalm 19:10; 119:103; 135:3).  DNA, which is a picture of the Word of God is made up of a sugar phosphate backbone which further links the concept of sweetness with His Word.  Science has found that our words affect our DNA (for the good or evil), with the greatest effect being love and forgiveness.  God (and His Word which reveals His character) is love (1 John 4:8, 16).  Creation is a reflection of God’s Word and His love.  This sweetness found in nature points to His Word/love.

Extracellular Matrix

“The laminin protein molecule is the major component that makes up the extracellular matrix which is also called the basement membrane. These are the sheets of protein that form the substrate of all internal organs. Laminin assist in cell adhesion and binds other extracellular matrix components together.”  {Laminin Molecules Hold Us Together}

The word ‘matrix’ traces back to the Hebrew word אמא ’ema’ which means mother and comes from the root word אם ‘em’ which means ‘glue’. Matrix is also etymologically connected to the word ‘madrigal.’

“Etymologically, madrigal denotes ‘a simple song, such as might just have sprung from the mother’s womb.’ It comes ultimately from medieval Latin matricalis ‘simple, primitive,’ a derivative of Latin matrix ‘womb.’ {Dictionary of Word Origins pg 332 ‘Madrigal’}

Amazingly, all matter comes forth from a matrix of water in the beginning and was manifested through sound/a song.

“Matter is composed of atoms, which in turn are made from quarks and electrons. According to string theory, all such particles are actually tiny loops of vibrating string.” {Elegant Universe pg 14}

“String theory proclaims, for instance, that the observed particle properties, are a reflection of the various ways in which a string can vibrate. Just as the strings on a violin or on a piano have resonant frequencies at which they prefer to vibrate – patterns that our ears sense as various musical notes and their higher harmonics – the same holds true for the loops of string theory….each of the preferred patterns of vibration of a string in string theory appears as a particle whose mass and force changes are determined by the string’s oscillatory pattern.” {Elegant Universe pg 15}

In short, all of creation comes forth from music. Just as the Holy Scriptures spoke of thousands of years ago.

String theory is a part of a larger synthesis called M-Theory. Originally the letter M in M-theory was taken from membrane, a construct designed to generalize the strings of string theory.

In M-Theory strings with closed loops free to go from one dimension to another. Interestingly, M-Theory originally spoke of 10 dimensions. This was later expanded to 11 dimensions based on the necessary consolidation of five separate string theories to produce an 11th unifying dimension and a consistent string theory. This is fascinating in that the Tabernacle had 11 curtains…

Exo 26:7 And you shall make curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle; you shall make eleven curtains.

The open ended loops (like floss) are tied down to our physical dimension. These strings can be ‘stretched out’ and are called a membrane. The universe is called a ‘brane’ world. Brane comes from the Latin word ‘membrana,’ the source of the word membrane.

Recall that laminin is a ‘basement membrane.’
