Random Word – Planter

Random Word Planter

Today’s random word comes from נטע ‘nata’ which means to plant or a planter.  Scripture declares this planter is The Lord God (Genesis 2:8) the Son of Man (Matthew 13:37).

Scripture speaks of His people as the branch of His planting.
Isa 60:21  Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

Isa 61:1  The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Isa 61:2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
Isa 61:3  To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

We must be “planted” by Him, otherwise we will be rooted up as a dead branch (Matthew 15:13; John 15:1-14; Ephesians 2:10).  It is through His Right Hand that we are planted and brought into the Promised Land (Exodus 15:1, 6, 17-18; Psalm 80:8, 15; Jeremiah 24:6-7), to flourish in the courts of our God (Psalm 92:12-14).

Another Hebrew word which has the meaning of a plant is שלח ‘shalach.’  This word literally means a projectile as in a dart (2 Chronicle 32:5) or sword (Joel 2:8) which is sent forth by the hand.  שלח ‘shalach’ is the source of the word Apostle, which in Hebrew is שליה ‘sholiach.’  As believers, we are to walk in the footsteps of Messiah (1 John 2:6), THE Apostle (Hebrews 3:1; John 5:38; 6:29; 7:29; 8:42; 17:3, 18-21; 20:21-22) who came to earth speaking the Words of God (John 3:34).  The Word is a sharp sword (Hebrews 4:12) in the hands of His apostles (plants) who are born again through the implanting of this Word (James 1:18, 21; 1 Peter 1:23) who can then share its life giving fruit (Proverbs 11:30).
