Daily Tidbits 12/16/11– Moneychangers

There are different aspects to the promise to Abraham, all of which can be used to display different aspects of the Gospel and shadow pictures of Messiahclick here.  His seed was promised  to overcome the gate of their enemies (Genesis 22:17; Matthew 16:18). This aspect of the promise to Abraham will be used to Expose the beastclick here and remembrance that overcoming it is only by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11).

In the series of studies on the mark of the beastclick here, many connections to money are seen and this stands to reason as the Scriptures speak of the mark of the beast being necessary in order to buy or sell (Revelation 13:17). In recent weeks, protests against Wall Street have been seen in the news as the corruption of the money systemclick here of this world is becoming more and more exposed to the majority. In light of this, I wish to share a tidbit on moneychangers/bankers.

Joh 2:14 And He found those selling oxen and sheep and doves in the temple, and the money changers (kermatistēs) sitting.
Joh 2:15 And making a whip out of ropes, He threw all out of the temple, both the sheep, and the oxen, and the money changers, pouring out the money and overturning the tables.
Joh 2:16 And to the ones selling the doves, He said, Take these things from here! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise.
Joh 2:17 And His disciples remembered that it was written, “The zeal of Your house has consumed Me.” Psa. 69:9

The Greek word in John 2:14 for money changer is κερματιστής ‘kermatistēs’ which comes from κέρμα ‘kerma’ which means small pieces of money or coins. ‘Kerma’ comes from the word κείρω ‘keirō ‘ which has the meaning of shearing sheep.

This word would trace back to the Hebrew word ‘geza.’

‘Geza’ is the Hebrew word for race. Biblically, race is not defined by color or bloodlines. Race is defined by what nature you are. You are either in Messiah or you are not (Romans 8:9). It matters not what color your skin is, or what economic status you have. You are either for Him or against Him (Luke 11:23). You are either the seed of the woman or the seed of the serpent. You either worship YHWH God or mammon. The word for color in Hebrew, צבע, has the same meaning as being baptized and becoming anew. You are either sprinkled by the blood of Messiah (Isaiah 52:15; Hebrew 10:22) or you are still covered in the garments of sinful flesh.   Interestingly, one of the words for money in Hebrew (Exodus 21:30; 30:16) is כפרkopher’ which has the meaning of atonement/covering.

This comes from the 3 letter root:

Messiah was betrayed at Passover (Matthew 26:2) for 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 26:15), in order to fulfill the prophecy of Zechariah as the atonement for mankind (Zechariah 11:12-13).

Notice that כפר ‘kaphar’ comes from the root חף ‘chaph’ which has the meaning of a bird overshadowing its brood with its wings.  This is the essence of Passover when Messiah was betrayed.

Interestingly, there is a link to Passover, money and the return of Messiah in Isaiah 31.
Isa 31:4  For so YHWH has said to me: As the lion roars, even the young lion on his prey when the multitude of shepherds are gathered against him, he will not fear their voice, nor fret himself because of their noise. So YHWH of Hosts shall go down to fight on Mount Zion, and on its hill. {This is speaking of the Messiah’s 2nd coming- Zechariah 14:3}

Isa 31:5  As birds that fly (Matthew 23:37), so YHWH of Hosts will shield (Hebrew – ganan – garden) over Jerusalem; shielding (ganan) and delivering, and passing over (Hebrew – pesach), He will save it (Hebrew – malat – used in Isaiah 66:7 speaking of the delivering of the manchild/Zion).
Isa 31:6  Turn back to Him against whom you have made a deep revolt, sons of Israel.
Isa 31:7  For in that day each shall despise his silver idols and his golden idols, which your hands have made for you; a sin.
Isa 31:8  Then Assyria* shall fall by a sword, not of man; yea, a sword, not of man, shall devour him. For he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become forced labor. (This refers to Isaiah chapter 14)  *Assyria is linked to the beastclick here
Isa 31:9  And his rock will pass away from fear; and his commanders shall tremble at the banner, declares YHWH, whose fire is in Zion, and His furnace in Jerusalem. {the Banner is Jesus Exo 17:15; Isa 11:10; 49:22)

Isa 2:8  And his land is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.
Isa 2:9  And man bowed down; and man was humbled, but You do not lift them up.
Isa 2:10  Enter into the rock and hide in the dust from fear of YHWH, and from the glory of His majesty.
Isa 2:11  The lofty eyes of man shall be humbled, and the pride of men shall be bowed down; but YHWH, He alone, will be exalted in that day.
Isa 2:12  For the day of YHWH of Hosts shall be on all the proud and lofty ones, and on all that is lifted up; and it will be abased;
Isa 2:13  and against all Lebanon’s cedars, high and lifted up; and against all the oaks of Bashan;
Isa 2:14  and against all the high mountains; and against all the lifted up hills;
Isa 2:15  and against every tall tower; and against every fortified wall;
Isa 2:16  and against all the ships of Tarshish; and on all desirable craft.
Isa 2:17  And the pride of man shall be humbled; and the loftiness of men shall be abased; and YHWH alone will be exalted in that day.
Isa 2:18  And the idols shall completely vanish.
Isa 2:19  And they shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, for dread of YHWH, and from the glory of His majesty; when He rises up to make the earth quake.
Isa 2:20  In that day a man shall throw his silver, and his golden idols which they made for him to worship to the hole of the burrower and to bats;
Isa 2:21  to go into the crevices of the rocks, and into the clefts of the cliffs, from the dread of YHWH, and from the glory of His majesty; when He rises up to make the earth quake.
Isa 2:22  Cease yourself from man, whose breath is in his nostril, for in what is he to be esteemed?

It was for the zeal of His house that Messiah cast out the corrupt bankers of His day.  What is His house?  His body (Hebrews 3:6).

Those who are of the ‘race/geza’ of Messiah are those who abide in Him, the Olive tree.
1Pe 2:9 But you are “an elect race,” “a royal priesthood,” “a holy nation,” “a people for possession,” so that “you may openly speak of the virtues” of the One who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; LXX-Ex. 23:22; MT-Ex. 19:5, 6
Those who are of ‘race’ of the beast abide in him, the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

In Hebrew the word for race is גזע, which means the stock/root of a tree.
H1503
גּזע
geza‛
BDB Definition:
1) stem, trunk, stock (of trees)
Who is the root of Yisrael? Messiah Jesus
Rom 11:16 For if the firstfruit (1Cor 15:52 -Messiah) be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root (Isa 6:13; Gal 3:16 – Messiah) be holy, so are the branches (Joh 15:5).
Isa 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem (H1503 גּזע geza‛)of Jesse, and a Branch{H5342 נצר netser*} shall grow (parah -bear fruit) out of his roots:
The other root spoken of in Scripture is the root of the serpent
Isa 14:29  Do not rejoice, O Philistia, all of you, for the rod of your striking is broken, because a viper comes forth from the root of a snake, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.
Notice that from the root of a snake comes for the fruit of a serpent.  Above, from the root of Jesse comes forth the fruit of the Spirit.  This is the true meaning of race.  The seed of the woman or the seed of the serpent.  Ye shall know them by their fruits.
Mat 7:14  For narrow is the gate, and constricted is the way that leads away into life, and few are the ones finding it.
Mat 7:15  But beware of the false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inside they are plundering wolves.
Mat 7:16  From their fruits you shall know them. Do they gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
Mat 7:17  So every good tree produces good fruits, but the corrupt tree produces evil fruits.
Mat 7:18  A good tree cannot produce evil fruits, nor a corrupt tree produce good fruits.
Mat 7:19  Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and is thrown into fire.
Mat 7:20  Then surely from their fruits you shall know them.
Mat 7:21  Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but the ones who do the will of My Father in Heaven.
Mat 7:22  Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many works of power?
Mat 7:23  And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; “depart from Me, those working lawlessness!” Psa. 6:8
Notice the link between sheep & fruit.  Recall that ‘kermatistēs comes from ‘keirō ‘ which has the meaning of shearing sheep.
Back to the money changers
Mat 21:12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God and threw out all those selling and buying in the temple. And He overthrew the tables of the money changers (kollubistēs) and the seats of those selling the doves.
Mat 21:13 And He said to them, It has been written, “My house shall be called a house of prayer,” but you have “made it a den of plunderers.” Isa. 56:7; Jer. 7:11
κολλυβιστης  ‘kollubistēs’ comes from the root word κολλαω ‘kollaō’ which means glue or to join one’s self to.  This word ‘κολλαω’ is used to translate the Hebrew word נצר ‘natsar’ in the Septuagint.  Natsar is the word from whence ‘Christian’ comes.  Again we see the two seeds, two tree, two tables…
Isa 11:1  And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem (H1503 גּזע geza‛)of Jesse, and a Branch{H5342 נצר netser*} shall grow (parah -bear fruit) out of his roots:

*Netser is the origin of the name ‘Christian’.Netsarim
Messiah’s assault on the moneychangers is linked to Jeremiah 7 & Isaiah 56.  Isaiah 56 speaks of those who are considered ‘strangers’ cleaving to YHWH and are given a better place than literal descendants of Jacob.  Jeremiah 7 speaks of those who are worshipping in the Temple of YHWH but at the same time worshipping Baal…ie mixed worship, the tree of knowledge.

Mat 6:24  No one is able to serve two lords; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other; or he will cleave to the one, and he will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and wealth.
