Jesus is Messiah

Jesus is Messiah
Joh 20:31  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Messiah in Hebrew literally means an anointed one, as in a king (1 Samuel 24:6, 10), prophet (1 Kings 19:16) or priest (Leviticus 4:3, 5, 16; 6:22).  The term is used in reference to His people as well (Psalm 105:15; 1 Chronicles 16:22).  Most important is the usage of the term in reference to the Son of God (Psalm 2:2, 6-7; Matthew 16:16; 26:63; John 6:69),  the Savior of the world (Habakkuk 3:13; Daniel 9:25) who is to rule as King over all the earth (Psalm 45:6-7; 72:1-11; Isaiah 9:6-7; 33:22; Psalm 110:1-4; Jeremiah 23:5-6; Zechariah 9:9-10; Daniel 7:13-14).

The Messiah is revealed from the TaNaKH in a ‘step by step’ method, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:10).

Act 9:22  But Saul was more filled with power, and he confounded the Jews living in Damascus, proving* that this One is the Christ.

The meaning of the above where Paul proves Messiah from the Scriptures is by joining together Scriptures step by step, knitting together the meaning.

Paul’s custom was to go into synagogues on the Sabbath days, when the Torah portions were read and to show Messiah to those in the synagogue in that Torah portion.

Act 17:2  And according to Paul’s custom, he went in to them and reasoned with them from the Scriptures on three sabbaths,
Act 17:3  opening and setting forth that the Christ must have suffered, and to have risen from the dead, and that this is the Christ, Jesus, whom I announce to you.
Act 17:4  And some of them were persuaded and joined themselves to Paul and Silas, both a great multitude of the worshiping Greeks, and not a few of the leading women.
Act 28:23  And having appointed him a day, more came to him in the lodging, to whom he expounded, earnestly testifying the kingdom of God and persuading them the things concerning Jesus, both from the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning until evening.

Messiah Jesus taught that the TaNaKH was written about Himself.  His custom was to teach in the synagogues each sabbath as well.

Luk 4:16  And He came to Nazareth where He was brought up. And as was His custom, He went in on the day of the sabbaths, into the synagogue, and He stood up to read.

He used this time to show the people about Himself.

Luk 4:17  And the scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him. And unrolling the book, He found the place where it was written:
Luk 4:18  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me. Because of this He anointed Me to proclaim the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me” to heal the brokenhearted, “to proclaim remission to captives, and to the blind to see again,” to send away the ones being crushed, in remission,
Luk 4:19  “to preach an acceptable year of the Lord.” Isa. 61:1, 2
Luk 4:20  And rolling up the scroll, returning it to the attendant, He sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
Luk 4:21  And He began to say to them, Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.

Here we see the precedent set that the Torah (in specific the Torah portions) is used to exhort believers, but most importantly, to teach them about Messiah.

Act 13:14  But going through from Perga, they came to Antioch-Pisidia, and going into the synagogue on the day of the sabbaths, they sat down.

Act 13:15  And after the reading of the Law, and of the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent to them, saying, Men, brothers, if there is a word of exhortation to the people, speak.

Act 13:16  And rising up, and signaling with his hand, Paul said, Men, Israelites, and the ones fearing God, listen.
Act 13:17  The God of this people Israel chose out our fathers, and exalted the people in their stay in the land of Egypt. And with a high arm, He led them out of it.
Act 13:18  And as forty years time passed, He tenderly bore them in the wilderness.
Deut. 1:31
Act 13:19  And He pulled down seven nations in Canaan land, and gave their land to them as an inheritance. Deut. 7:1
Act 13:20  And after these things, as four hundred and fifty years passed, He gave judges until Samuel the prophet.

Act 13:22  And removing him, He raised up to them David for a king, to whom He also said, witnessing, “I found David” the son of Jesse “to be a man according to My own heart, who will do all My will.

Act 13:27  For those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not having known this One, and the voices of the prophets being read throughout every sabbath, condemning Him, they fulfilled the Scriptures.
Act 13:28  And finding not one cause of death, they asked Pilate to do away with Him.
Act 13:29  And when they finished all the things having been written concerning Him, taking Him down from the tree, they laid Him in a tomb.

(1 Peter 1:25; Psalm 68:11; Acts 10:34-36; Romans 1:1-4; Ephesians 1:13; Colossians 1:5-6)

The Gospel is the promise to Abraham (Galatians 3:8, 16; Romans 4:13), the promise =the Word (Deuteronomy 6:3 דבר ‘dabar’=promise) the promise = the Messiah (Jeremiah 33:14-16) the promise = eternal life (1 John 2:25; Genesis 17:8)

Hab. 1:5
Act 13:42  But the Jews having gone out of the synagogue, the nations begged that these words be spoken to them on the next sabbath.

The TaNaKH is about Jesus the Messiah

Joh 1:45  Philip finds Nathanael and said to him, We have found the One of whom Moses wrote in the Law and the Prophets, Jesus the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.
Joh 5:39  You search the Scriptures, for you think in them you have everlasting life. And they are the ones witnessing concerning Me.
Joh 5:46  For if you were believing Moses, you would then believe Me; for that one wrote concerning Me.
Joh 5:47  But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My Words?
Psa 40:7  Then I said, Lo, I come, in the roll of the Book it is written of Me;

Messiah in the TaNaKH

Following are some of the primary portions of the TaNaKH that are speaking of Messiah.  As seen above, the ENTIRE Bible was written of Him (Psalm 40:7) so it would take volumes to even scratch the surface on revealing Messiah from the TaNaKH (Old Testament).  For more in depth studies on the .

Promised Seed

Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This is perhaps the most important prophecy of the Messiah.  The entire message of the Holy Scriptures hinges off of this Scripture.  All of human history traces down to this verse as well as there have always been two seeds at war with one another since the beginning.

Psalm 89 links this prophecy with the Messiah.

Psa 89:19  Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one; and You said, I have laid help on a mighty one. I have exalted a chosen one from the people.
Psa 89:20  I have found My servant David; I have anointed him with My holy oil.

David was a picture of Messiah (1 Chronicles 17:17) whose name became a prophetic reference to the Messiah (Jeremiah 23:5; 30:9; 33:15; Ezekiel 34:23-24; 37:24-25; Hosea 3:5; Matthew 1:1; 12:23; 22:42; Acts 2:25-34).

Psa 89:22  An enemy will not exact against him; nor the son of iniquity afflict him.
Psa 89:23  And I will beat down his foes before him, and plague those hating him.
Psa 89:24  But My faithfulness and My mercy is with him; and his horn shall be exalted in My name.
Psa 89:25  And I will set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
Psa 89:26  He shall cry to Me, My Father, You are my God, and the rock of my salvation.
Psa 89:27  And I will make Him My first-born, higher than the kings of the earth.
Psa 89:28  I will keep My mercy for him forever, and My covenant shall hold fast with him.
Psa 89:29  And I have established his Seed forever, and His throne as the days of the heavens.

Psa 89:35  Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.
Psa 89:36  His Seed shall be forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.
Psa 89:37  Like the moon, it shall be forever; and a faithful witness in the sky. Selah.

Psa 89:50  Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, my bearing in my bosom the insults of the many peoples (This is in reference to Messiah carrying the sins of mankind Isaiah 53; Romans 15:3)
Psa 89:51  with which Your enemies have cursed*, O YHWH; with which they have cursed* (pierced) the footsteps** of Your anointed (Heb. mashiyach).

*The word translated ‘cursed’ above is from the Hebrew ‘charaph’ which means to pierce, referring back to Genesis 3:15 and the piercing of the heel of the Seed of the woman.

**The word translated as ‘footsteps’ refers to the heel.

Birth of the Seed of the woman

Mic 5:1  Now gather yourself together, daughter of a troop; one sets a siege against us. They shall strike the Judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.
Mic 5:2  And you, Bethlehem Ephratah, being least among the thousands of Judah, out of you He shall come forth to Me to become One ruling in Israel; and His goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity.
Mic 5:3  So He will give them over until the time the one giving birth has given birth. Then the rest of His brothers shall return to the sons of Israel.
Mic 5:4  And He shall stand and feed in the strength of YHWH, in the majesty of the name of YHWH His God. And they shall sit, for now He is great to the ends of the earth.
Mic 5:5  And this One shall be peace. When Assyria shall come into our land, and when he shall walk in our palaces, then we shall raise against him seven shepherds and eight anointed ones of man.

Isa 7:14  So, The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold! The virgin will conceive and will bring forth a son; and she shall call His name Immanuel.

In Genesis 3, when YHWH is speaking of the war between the two seeds, He is speaking of the Seed of the woman (Eve) when she was yet a virgin.  This is the first reference to the virgin birth.

The Promised Seed is Immanuel (God with us).

Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Adam & Eve understood this as Eve believed that Cain was the fulfillment of this prophecy.

Gen 4:1  And the man knew his wife Eve. And she conceived and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of YHWH.

The phrase ‘with the help of’ is not in the Hebrew text.  Literally, the Hebrew says ‘I have gotten a man, YHWH.’

In Revelation 12, the Messiah is born of Zion which in the natural is the virgin Mary.  Zion is likened unto a virgin in Scripture (2Kings 19:21; Isaiah 37:22; Lamentations 2:13).

Rev 12:1  And a great sign was seen in the heavens, a woman having been clothed with the sun, and the moon was underneath her feet; and on her head a crown of twelve stars;
Rev 12:2  and having a babe in womb. She cries, being in labor, and having been distressed to bear.
Rev 12:3  And another sign was seen in the heavens. And, behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns! And on his heads were seven diadems,
Rev 12:4  and his tail drew the third part of the stars of the heaven, and he throws them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman being about to bear, so that when she bears he might devour her child.
Rev 12:5  And she bore a son, a male, who is going to shepherd all the nations with an iron staff. And her child was caught away to God, and to His throne.

Jer 31:22  Until when will you turn to and fro, O faithless daughter? For YHWH has created a new thing in the land: a woman shall enclose a man.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

A woman: נקבה תסובב גבר [Strong’s H5347], literally “A female (‘one who is only a woman, not a wife, namely a virgin,’ says Cocceius) shall encompass a man,” or a male child. Comp. Job_3:3. Which, together with the addition of a new creation, may well be understood to denote the miraculous conception. Hence the Jews have applied it determinately to the Messiah. In Berashith Rabba (Parash 89) it is said, that as God punished Israel in a virgin, so would he also heal; and in Midrash Tillim, on Psa_2:1-12, R. Huna, in the name of R. Idi, speaking of the sufferings of the Messiah, says, that when his hour is come, God shall say, “I must create him with a new creation; and so he saith, This day I have begotten thee.” Gen_3:15; Isa_7:14; Mat_1:21; Luk_1:34-35; Gal_4:4

John Gill commentary on Jeremiah 31:22

So the Targum, “for, behold, the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth and the people of the house of Israel have given themselves up to the law.”

some of the Jewish doctors themselves have acknowledged, that the Messiah is here intended. In an ancient  book of theirs {Zohar in Gen. tom. 13. 4.}, on mention of these words, it is added,

“this shall be in the time of the Messiah, which will be on the sixth day;”

that is, the sixth millennium And elsewhere {In Abarbinel. Mashmiah Jeshuah, fol. 37. 4.} “a woman shall compass a man”; says R. Hona, in the name of R. Ame, this is the King Messiah. So says R. Joshua ben Levi {Apud Moses Hadarsan in Gen. c. 41. Vid. Galatin. de Arcanis Cath. Ver. l. 7. c. 14. p. 52, 526.},

“he, that is, God, heals with the same he wounds; so will you find in Israel, they sinned by a virgin, and were punished in virgins, Eze_23:1; so he comforts them by a virgin, according to Jer_31:21; “turn again, O virgin of Israel”, &c. “a woman shall compass a man”. R Huna, in the name of R. Idi and R. Joshua, said, that this man is the King Messiah, of whom it is said, Psa_2:7, “this day have I begotten thee”.”

Promise to Abraham

The Promised Seed of the woman passes through Abraham.

Gen 12:7  And YHWH appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your Seed. And he built an altar there to YHWH, who appeared to him.

Gen 13:15  For all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your Seed always.
Gen 13:16  And I will make your seed as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can count the dust of the earth, then your seed also will be counted.
Gen 13:17  Rise up! Walk through the land, in its length and in its breadth, for I will give it to you.

Gen 22:18  And in your Seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed because you have obeyed My voice.

What is the blessing?

Act 3:25  You are sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God appointed to our fathers, saying to Abraham, “Even in your Seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Gen. 22:18
Act 3:26  Having raised up His child Jesus, God sent Him first to you, blessing you in turning away each one from your iniquities.

Eph 1:3  Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies with Christ,
Eph 1:4  even as He elected us in Him before the foundation of the world, for us to be holy and without blemish before Him in love,
Eph 1:5  predestinating us to adoption through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
Eph 1:6  to the praise of the glory of His grace in which He favored us in the One having been loved,
Eph 1:7  in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of deviations, according to the riches of His grace
Eph 1:8  which He caused to abound toward us in all wisdom and understanding,
Eph 1:9  making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
Eph 1:10  for the administration of the fullness of the times to head up all things in Christ, both the things in the heavens, and the things on earth, in Him,
Eph 1:11  in whom we also have been chosen to an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of the One working all things according to the counsel of His own will,
Eph 1:12  for us to be to the praise of His glory, the ones who had previously trusted in Christ;
Eph 1:13  in whom also you, hearing the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also believing you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14  who is an earnest of our inheritance, to the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Gal 3:8  And the Scripture foreseeing that God would justify the nations by faith, preached the gospel before to Abraham: “All the nations will be blessed” “in you.” Gen. 12:3
Gal 3:9  So that those of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

The blessed are the faithful.

1Jn 5:4  Because everything having been born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory overcoming the world, our faith.
1Jn 5:5  Who is the one overcoming the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

The Seed of Abraham = The Messiah

Gal 3:16  But the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his Seed (it does not say, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” which is Christ). Genesis 3:15; 21:12; 22:18, Rom. 9:6; Heb. 11:18

Gal 3:29  And if you are of Christ, then you are a seed of Abraham, even heirs according to promise.

The Promise to Abraham is Gospel

Gal 3:8  And the Scripture foreseeing that God would justify the nations by faith, preached the gospel before to Abraham: “All the nations will be blessed” “in you.” Gen. 12:3

The Promise = the Word
Deu 6:3  Hear, then, O Israel, and take heed to do it, that it may be well with you, that you may increase greatly, as YHWH the God of your fathers has promised* you, in the land flowing with milk and honey.
*דבר ‘dabar’…His Word is His promise

Psa 105:42  For He remembered His holy Word (KJV promise) and His servant Abraham;

This Promise is of the Seed, YHWH in the flesh

Jer 33:14  Behold, the days come, says YHWH, that I will fulfill the good thing (dabar -Word) which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
Jer 33:15  In those days, and at that time, I will cause a Branch of Righteousness to grow up to David. And He shall do judgment and righteousness in the land.
Jer 33:16  In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell in safety. And this is the name that shall be called on her: YHWH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Jer 23:5  Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Jer 23:6  In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Zachariah connected this promise with the coming of the Most High

Luk 1:68  Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He visited and worked redemption for His people.
Luk 1:69  And He raised up a Horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David;
Luk 1:70  even as He spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets from the age before:
Luk 1:71  Salvation from ones hostile to us, and from the hand of all the ones hostile to us,
Luk 1:72  to execute mercy with our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant,
Luk 1:73  the oath which He swore to our father Abraham,
Luk 1:74  to give to us, that we being delivered out of the hand of those hostile to us, in order to serve Him without fear,
Luk 1:75  in consecration and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
Luk 1:76  And you, child, will be called Prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, Mal. 3:1
Luk 1:77  to give a knowledge of salvation to His people by remission of their sins,
Luk 1:78  through the tender heart of mercy of our God, in which the Dayspring from on high will visit us,
Luk 1:79  to appear to those sitting in darkness and in shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace. Isa. 9:2

The Word is the Gospel

Act 13:32  And we preach the gospel to you, the promise made to the fathers,

1Pe 1:25  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Act 10:36  The Word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching the gospel of peace through Jesus Christ, this One is Lord of all.

Eph 1:13  in whom also you, hearing the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also believing you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Rom 1:1  Paul, a slave of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, separated to the gospel of God,
Rom 1:2  which He promised before through His prophets in the holy Scriptures,
Rom 1:3  concerning His Son who came of the seed of David according to flesh,
Rom 1:4  who was marked out the Son of God in power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord;

The Promise passed through Isaac

Gal 4:22  For it has been written, Abraham had two sons, one out of the slave woman and one out of the free woman.
Gal 4:23  But, indeed, he of the slave woman has been born according to flesh, and he out of the free woman through the promise,

Gal 4:28  But, brothers, we are children of promise according to Isaac.

Rom 9:8  That is: Not the children of flesh are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted for a seed.
Rom 9:9  For the Word of promise is this, “According to this time I will come, and a son will be to Sarah.” Gen. 18:10
Rom 9:10  And not only so, but also Rebekah conceiving of one, our father Isaac,
Rom 9:11  for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of the One calling,
Rom 9:12  it was said to her, “The greater shall serve the lesser;” Gen. 25:23
Rom 9:13  even as it has been written, “I loved Jacob, and I hated Esau.” Mal. 1:2, 3

The Promise then passed to Jacob/Israel

Heb 11:8  Having been called out by faith, Abraham obeyed to go forth to a place which he was going to receive for an inheritance; and he went out not understanding where he went.
Heb 11:9  By faith he resided as a foreigner in a land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint-heirs of the same promise;
Heb 11:10  for he looked forward to a city having the foundations of which the builder and maker is God.

The rulership of the sons of Jacob was given to Judah

Gen 49:10  The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the lawmaker from between his feet, until Shiloh come, and the obedience of the peoples to him.

From this line King Messiah was promised to come

Psa 89:3  I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
Psa 89:4  Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

Rom 1:1  Paul, a slave of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, separated to the gospel of God,
Rom 1:2  which He promised before through His prophets in the holy Scriptures,
Rom 1:3  concerning His Son who came of the seed of David according to flesh,

Psalm 72 speaks of Solomon, a picture of Messiah

Psa 72:7  In His days the righteous shall flourish, and plenty of peace, till the moon is not.

The Son

Psa 2:1  Why have the nations raged and the peoples are meditating on vanity?
Psa 2:2  The kings of the earth set themselves; yea, the rulers have plotted together against YHWH and His Anointed (His Messiah), saying,
Psa 2:3  We will break their bands in two, and throw off their cords from us.
Psa 2:4  He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall mock at them.
Psa 2:5  Then He will speak to them in His anger, and He will terrify them in His wrath;
Psa 2:6  Yea, I have set My king on My holy mount on Zion.
Psa 2:7  I will declare concerning the statute of YHWH: He said to Me, You are My Son. Today I have begotten You.
Psa 2:8  Ask of Me, and I will give the nations as Your inheritance; and the uttermost parts of the earth as Your possession.
Psa 2:9  You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Psa 2:10  Now, then, be wise, O kings; be taught, O judges of the earth:
Psa 2:11  Serve YHWH with fear; yea, rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:12  Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Oh the blessings of all those who flee to Him for refuge (Hebrew – חסה ‘chasah’ – put trust/hope in)!

Verse 12 states that we are to put our trust in the Messiah, yet Scripture also states that we are not to trust men.

Don’t trust in men
Jer 17:5  Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Psa 118:8  It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Psa 146:3  Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help

Trust in YHWH only
Isa 12:2  Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for Yah YHWH  is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Psa 32:10  Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.
Psa 34:8  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psa 40:4  Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Psa 84:12  O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
Pro 16:20  He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.
Isa 26:3  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Isa 26:4  Trust ye in YHWH for ever: for in the Yah YHWH is everlasting strength:

1Pe 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

We are to trust in the King spoken of in Psalm 2 because

Pro 30:4  Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

Dan 3:25  He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Dan 7:13  I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

Isa 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

The Arm of YHWH is Messiah

The human hand has 27 bones: the carpus or wrist account for 8; the metacarpals or palm contains five; the remaining fourteen are digital bones; fingers and thumb.  The 27 bones of the hand correspond to the 27 books of the New Testament.  The human arm consists of the humerus, ulna and radius representing the Torah, the Prophets and the Writings (TaNaKH).

This is interesting as the Messiah, the Word, is likened to the Arm of YHWH (Isaiah 53:1).  The bones of the human arm and hand are a picture of the Word. The hand as Messiah is specifically described as the ‘Hand’ of YHWH (Psalm 118:14-16; Isaiah 48:13; Acts 5:31 etc.). The human hand consists of 27 bones which correspond to the 27 books of the New Testament. These bones are divided into 3 parts. 5 metacarpal bones of the palm corresponding to the Gospels & Revelation. 14 bones of the fingers corresponding to the epistles of Paul and 8 bones in the wrist corresponding to the epistles of the other Apostles…The hand is connected to the three bones of the Arm (Isaiah 40:10; 63:5-8; Psalm 44:3; Deuteronomy 33:2 etc.) which correspond to the Torah, Prophets & Writings. The arm connects to the shoulder of which we are yoked to the Most High (Matthew 11:30), walking in one consent (Zephaniah 3:9).

Further, the 27 bones of the hand connect to 3 bones in the arm which equals 30.  30 bones in each arm and hand add up to 60.  This is amazing as the arms connect to the shoulders which consist of the 2 shoulder bones themselves that are connected to 2 clavicles and 2 scapulas which =6.  60+6= 66…the exact number of books in the Bible!

The Arm of YHWH would suffer for the sins of mankind.
Isa 53:10  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Dan 9:25  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
Dan 9:26  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

He would be given as a covenant

Isa 52:14  As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Isa 52:15  So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
Eze 34:23  And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.
Eze 37:24  And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
Zec 9:9  Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Zec 9:10  And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.
Zec 9:11  As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

The King would be accepted (Zechariah 9:9) and then rejected (Isaiah 49:7).
Isa 49:7  Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

Psa 89:32  Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

Psa 41:11  By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 3:15: The Seed of the Woman

Messiah in Hebrew literally means an anointed one, as in a king (1 Samuel 24:6, 10), prophet (1 Kings 19:16) or priest (Leviticus 4:3, 5, 16; 6:22).  The term is used in reference to His people as well (Psalm 105:15; 1 Chronicles 16:22).  Most important is the usage of the term in reference to the Son of God (Psalm 2:2, 6-7; Matthew 16:16; 26:63; John 6:69),  the Savior of the world (Habakkuk 3:13; Daniel 9:25) who is to rule as King over all the earth (Psalm 72:1-11; Isaiah 9:6-7; Psalm 110:1-4; Jeremiah 23:5-6; Zechariah 9:9-10; Daniel 7:13-14).

The entire Bible points to the Messiah (John 1:45; 5:39, 46-47; Psalm 40:7).

Ancient Jewish thought concurs with this:
“All the prophets prophesied only of the days of the Messiah.” [Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 99a]

“The world was created but only for the Messiah.” [Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 98b]

As a result it would take volumes of books to reveal this in depth.  The purpose of these studies is not to go into depth on every part of the Bible which speaks of Messiah, but to focus upon the prophecies found in the TaNaKH which the New Testament writings apply to Jesus of Nazareth.  The series of studies, Messiah in the Torah, is designed to go more in depth in revealing Jesus in the TaNaKH.

The Hebrew word for prophecy is נבא ‘naba’ which comes from the root word נב ‘nab’ meaning fruit, or more literally the seed within fruit.  The role of a prophet was to bring forth this ‘hidden seed.’  To reveal the ‘heart of God.’  Interestingly, this heart-seed connection is seen in the very Bible itself.

The first letter of the Torah is ב, the last letter of the Torah is ל, the last letter of the TaNaKH is also ל.  Both forwards בל and in reverse לב the word for heart is seen.

בּל  (Aramaic)
bâl
BDB Definition:
1) mind, heart

The Torah/TaNaKH is the ‘heart’ of YHWH (Psalm 119:32; Isaiah 51:7; Philippians 2:8).

This concept can be applied to the entire Scriptures as well.  The first letter of the TaNaKH ב and the last letter of the New Testament Scriptures ן

בן = Son

נב = Fruit

Here it can be seen that the Torah/TaNaKH is the heart/mind of YHWH.  When combined with the New Testament the Son/ Fruit of His Mind/Heart is brought forth.

Preaching the Gospel of Jesus day by day

Psa 96:2  Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.

In Hebrew this literally says ‘preach the gospel of His yeshua/salvation day by day.’

Psa 96:2 שׁירו ליהוה ברכו שׁמו בשׂרו מיום־ליום ישׁועתו׃

Act 9:22  But Saul was more filled with power, and he confounded the Jews living in Damascus, proving* that this One is the Christ.

The meaning of the above where Paul proves Messiah from the Scriptures is by joining together Scriptures step by step, knitting together the meaning.

Paul’s custom was to go into synagogues on the Sabbath days, when the TaNaKH was read and to show Messiah to those in the synagogue in that Torah portion (Acts 17:2-4; 28:23).

Messiah Jesus taught that the TaNaKH was written about Himself.  His custom was to teach in the synagogues each sabbath as well (Luke 4:16-21).

Here we see the precedent set that the TaNaKH is used not only for doctrine, reproof and instruction for righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16), but most importantly, to teach mankind about Messiah (Acts 13:14-32).

The New Testament is specifically written so that men may know that Jesus is the Messiah.  In these series of studies on the prophecy of Messiah, the New Testament writings will be used to show that the prophecies spoken of in the TaNaKH have indeed been fulfilled by Jesus of Nazareth.

Joh 20:31  But these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
1Jn 5:20  And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given to us an understanding that we may know the true One, and we are in the true One, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and the life everlasting.
2Jn 1:9  Everyone transgressing and not abiding in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. The one abiding in the doctrine of Christ, this one has the Father and the Son.

The Messiah is revealed from the TaNaKH in a ‘step by step’ method, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:10).

In the spirit of these verse, each day a different prophecy of Messiah will be shared.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 3:15: The Seed of the Woman

Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Scripture declares this was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth.

Luk 1:35  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Mat 1:18  Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 1:19  Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
Mat 1:20  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Psalm 89 links this prophecy in Genesis 3:15 with the Messiah.

Psa 89:51  with which Your enemies have cursed (חרף), O YHWH; with which they have cursed (חרף – pierced) the footsteps (עקב – heel) of Your anointed ( משיח mashiyach).

The word translated ‘cursed’ above is from the Hebrew ‘charaph’ which means to pierce, referring back to Genesis 3:15 and the piercing of the heel of the Seed of the woman.

The word חרף ‘charaph’ comes from the root word חל which means a twisting in pain.  This word is used in reference to the piercing of Messiah in Isaiah 53.

Isa 53:5  But He was wounded ( חלל chalal) for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His wounds we ourselves are healed.

charaf

The word translated as ‘footsteps’ in Psalm 89:51 refers to the heel.

In Genesis 3, when YHWH is speaking of the war between the two seeds, He is speaking of the Seed of the woman (Eve) when she was yet a virgin.  This is the first reference to the virgin birth.

The Promised Seed is Immanuael (God with us).

Literally, the Hebrew says ‘I have gotten a man, YHWH.’

genesis 4.1

In Revelation 12, the Messiah is born of Zion which in the natural is the virgin Mary.  Zion is likened unto a virgin in Scripture (2Kings 19:21; Isaiah 37:22; Lamentations 2:13).

Rev 12:1  And a great sign was seen in the heavens, a woman having been clothed with the sun, and the moon was underneath her feet; and on her head a crown of twelve stars;

“A woman: נקבה תסובב גבר [Strong’s H5347], literally “A female (‘one who is only a woman, not a wife, namely a virgin,’ says Cocceius) shall encompass a man,” or a male child. Comp. Idi, speaking of the sufferings of the Messiah, says, that when his hour is come, God shall say, “I must create him with a new creation; and so he saith, This day I have begotten thee.” Gen_3:15; Isa_7:14; Mat_1:21; Luk_1:34-35; Gal_4:4″

When Jesus of Nazareth walked the earth, Jews believed that the prophecy of the Seed of the woman was speaking of the Messiah who would be born of a virgin.

The Closed Mem

The Hebrew letter מ ‘mem’ has two forms.  The ‘open’ ‘mem’ מ is used at the beginning or middle of words while the ‘closed mem’ ם is used at the end of words.  The letter מ ‘mem’ has the meaning of waters or a womb.  In the Hebrew text there is a unique anomaly which alludes to the virgin birth of Messiah found in Isaiah 9:7.

Isa 9:7  There is no end to the increase of His government and of peace on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to sustain it with justice and with righteousness, from now and forever. The zeal of YHWH of Hosts will do this.

In the Hebrew text an amazing mystery is revealed showing that the Prince of peace will come from the closed womb.  The closed mem should only occur at the end of a word, but in the text it occurs in the middle.  This is the only time in Scripture that this happens.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 3:15: Crushing the serpent’s head

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 3:15: Crushing the serpent’s head

Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Scripture declares this was fulfilled in Jesus.

Heb 2:14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

1Jn 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
1Jn 3:9  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jn 3:10  In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

1Jn 3:11  For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

LOVE & THE CROSS

Messiah triumphed over the adversary by His work on the cross.
Col 2:15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Messiah on the cross is the revelation of God’s love.

The Father revealed what true love is when He gave His only begotten Son, who came from His bosom (John 1:18), as an atonement for the sins of mankind.  The most common Hebrew word for love אהבה ‘ahavah,’ literally means to give.

What is the ultimate definition of love? Giving one’s life for another
Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Joh 15:13  Greater love than this has no one, that anyone should lay down his soul for his friends.

The pictograph meaning of אהב displays this concept even further.

The first and last letters spell out the word for Father (אב ‘ab’) and the middle letter is a picture of a man with outstretched arms.  The Love of the Father is revealed through the Messiah on the tree, gathering all mankind back to their Creator.

Ancient Jewish thought applies Genesis 3:15 to the Messiah.

“Satan said before the Holy One, blessed be He, ‘Master of the World! The light which is hidden under your throne of Glory, for whom is it?’ He said to him, ‘For him who will turn you back and disgrace you, and shame your face.’ He (Satan) said to him, ‘Master of the World! Show him to me.’ He said to him, ‘Come and see him.’ When Satan saw the Messiah, he trembled and fell upon his face and said, ‘Surely this is the Messiah who in the future will cast me and all the princes of the nations of the world into Gehenna.’” [Pesiqta Rabbati page 161a]

Aramaic Targum

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between the seed of thy son, and the seed of her sons; and it shall be when the sons of the woman keep the commandments of the law, they will be prepared to smite thee upon thy head; but when they forsake the commandments of the law, thou wilt be ready to wound them in their heel. Nevertheless for them there shall be a medicine, but for thee there will be no medicine; and they shall make a remedy for the heel in the days of the King Meshiha.”

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 4:25: Another Seed

Gen 4:25  And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

The ancients believed that the birth of Seth was a prophecy of the Messiah.

John Gill commentary

“…the ancient Jews used to call him the seed which comes from another place; not from the place from whence seed ordinarily comes, from the loins of men, but from some other place they knew not where: their words are very remarkable on that passage in Gen_4:25, “and she called his name Seth, for God hath appointed me another seed”, &c. This observation is made by R. Tanchuma, in the name of R. Samuel; says he,

“she has respect to that seed, which is he that comes, ממקום אהר, “from another place”, and what is this? this is the King Messiah.”  {Bereshit Rabba, sect. 23. fol. 20. 4. Midrash Ruth, fol. 36. 1. }

The word for ‘appointed’ in Genesis 4:25 is שית ‘shiyt’ which literally means to sit.  This word is used in Psalm 110:1 speaking of the Messiah who would sit (שית ‘shiyt’) at the right hand of the Father.

Psa 110:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Scripture declares this was fulfilled in Jesus (Mark 16:19; Acts 2:34; Ephesians 1:20-22; 1 Peter 3:22).

This ‘setting’ of the Messiah by the Almighty is further seen in Psalm 2.

Psa 2:6  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

The word in Hebrew for ‘set’ in Psalm 2:6 is נסך ‘nasak’ which literally means to anoint, as in the anointing of King Messiah.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 8:8-11: The Spirit of Messiah

Gen 8:8  Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
Gen 8:9  But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
Gen 8:10  And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
Gen 8:11  And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

The ancients believed this portion of Scripture was a prophecy of the Messiah.

John Gill commentary on Matthew 3:16

The Spirit of God, here said to descend and light on Christ, is the same, which in the first creation moved upon the face of the waters; and now comes down on Christ, just as he was coming up out of the waters of Jordan, where he had been baptized; and which the Jews so often call המשיח רוח של מלד, “the Spirit of the king Messiah, and the spirit of the Messiah”… {Bereshit Rabba, fol. 2. 4. & 6. 3. Vajikra Rabba, fol. 156. 4. Zohar in Gen. fol. 107. 3. & 128. 3. Baal Hatturim in Gen. i. 2. Caphtor Uperah, fol. 113. 2.}

…who can read this account without thinking of Noah’s dove, which brought in its mouth the olive leaf, a token of peace and reconciliation, when the waters were abated from off the earth? Give me leave to transcribe a passage I have met with in the book of Zohar {In Num. fol. 68. 3, 4.};

“a door shall be opened, and out of it shall come forth the dove which Noah sent out in the days of the flood, as it is written, “and he sent forth the dove”, that famous dove; but the ancients speak not of it, for they knew not what it was, only from whence it came, and did its message; as it is written, “it returned not again unto him any more”: no man knows whither it went, but it returned to its place, and was hid within this door; and it shall take a crown in its mouth, and put it upon the head of the king Messiah.”

And a little after, the dove is said to abide upon his head, and he to receive glory from it. Whether this is the remains of some ancient tradition, these men studiously conceal, concerning the opening of the heavens, and the descent of the Spirit of God, as a dove, upon the Messiah; or whether it is hammered out of the evangelic history, let the reader judge.

This ancient belief was fulfilled in Jesus.

Mat 3:16  And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat 3:17  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Mar 1:10  And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
Mar 1:11  And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Luk 3:21  Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
Luk 3:22  And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
Joh 1:32  And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
Joh 1:33  And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 1:34  And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

In Genesis 1:2 we see the Spirit of God hovering over the waters at the beginning of creation.  The ancients believed this to be the Spirit of the Messiah.

Messiah in the Torah – Genesis 1:2-5

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 9:26-27: God shall dwell in the tents of Shem

Gen 9:26  And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
Gen 9:27  God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

The Ancients interpreted ‘He shall dwell in the tents of Shem’ as a prophecy of the Glory of the Lord coming to  earth.  The Targum Onkelos translates the phrase as “God shall cause his Shechinah or glorious Majesty to dwell in the tents of Shem.”

This would occur through a descendant of Shem, Jesus of Nazareth.

Joh 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Isa 11:10  And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Rom 15:12  And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.
Rev 5:5  And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Rev 22:16  I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

YHWH God, in His infinite wisdom, caused the names of the ancestors of Messiah to teach the Gospel. Here is an example from Luke 3.

God, to the earth, has appointed mortal man to receive (through human birth) His splendor.  He shall come down, teaching/dedicated that His death shall bring the defeated, rest.  His name shall release us so that we may acquire peace as we cross over the gap by our friend who is a firm rope (who was pierced in ignorance so that we may repent from our wondering).  This Father of a great multitude shall laugh in mockery at the supplanter who caught His heel.  Praise will break forth!  Arrows of joy on high from the people of this willing giver!  Hear an ominous oracle.  His garment is a high mountain and in Him is strength.  Worship and serve YHWH who is Beloved, He is a giver of a gift of consolation and full care.  He will establish this gift of grace and He will add praise.  Listen and obey, for we have been joined to this gift that YHWH has exalted.  This Helper will be our aid.  Be watchful, for Elohim has measured all divination with a great witness that YHWH is our King and Light.  I have asked Elohim, will sinful offspring of Babel be healed of You.  He answered, ” I am full of grace.”  Then praise and add to it!  Obey the gift of YHWH from this time on.  The radiance of sunlight is by His side in nobility.  Comfort and compassion are for the one with a great burden.  With this gift of YHWH, He will add and answer the oppressed..”YHWH is King.”  Join unto the gift and ascend when He adds to you Jesus!

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 12:1-3: The Blessing of Abraham

Gen 12:1  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Gen 12:3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Paul spoke of this promise to Abraham as the Gospel.

Gal 3:8  And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

The Gospel traces back to the Garden and the promise of the Seed of the woman who would defeat the serpent.  Here then in Genesis 12 it is seen that the promise of the Seed of the woman was given to Abraham.  It is through this Seed that the head of the serpent would be crushed, thus bringing about the blessing.

Heb 2:14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Heb 2:16  For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Heb 2:17  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Scripture declares that this promise of the blessing would come through the Messiah.
Psa 72:17  His name shall be forever; His name shall continue before the sun; and they shall bless themselves by Him; all nations shall call Him blessed.
Psa 45:2  You are the fairest of the sons of man; grace has poured into Your lips; on this account God has blessed You forever.
Psa 118:26  Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

Scripture declares that this promise was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth.  He is the Seed of Abraham who brought forth the blessing which is forgiveness of sins and reconciliation to God the Father.

Act 3:25  Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
Act 3:26  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

Eph 1:3  Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies with Christ,

Gal 3:16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gal 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29  And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 12:7: The Promised Land

Gen 12:7  And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

This Scripture is speaking of the land of Canaan but more importantly, the heavenly country built by God.

Heb 11:8  By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Heb 11:9  By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Heb 11:10  For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Heb 11:11  Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Heb 11:12  Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Heb 11:13  These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Heb 11:14  For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Heb 11:15  And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
Heb 11:16  But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Citizenship in this land comes through the Seed of Abraham, the Messiah.
Php 3:20  For our citizenship is in Heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Php 3:21  who will transform our body of humiliation, for it to be conformed to His body of glory, according to the working of Him to be able even to subject all things under Himself.

In the previous study it was seen that the blessing of Abraham applies to those who are in Messiah. It is the blessed ones who inherit the earth.  They are His heirs.
Psa 37:22  For His blessed ones inherit the earth; and those cursed by Him shall be cut off.

Gal 3:16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Gal 3:29  And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Heb 9:15  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 14:18: Melchizedek

Gen 14:18  And Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most high God.
Gen 14:19  And he blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of Heaven and earth;
Gen 14:20  and blessed be the most high God, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him a tithe of all.

The Messiah was to be of the priesthood of Melchizedek

Psa 110:4  The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Scripture declares this was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth
Heb 5:5  So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
Heb 5:6  As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 5:7  Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Heb 5:8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Heb 5:10  Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

Heb 6:13  For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
Heb 6:14  Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Heb 6:15  And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Heb 6:16  For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
Heb 6:17  Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
Heb 6:18  That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Heb 6:19  Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Heb 6:20  Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Heb 7:1  For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
Heb 7:2  To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Heb 7:3  Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Heb 7:4  Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Heb 7:5  And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
Heb 7:6  But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
Heb 7:7  And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
Heb 7:8  And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
Heb 7:9  And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
Heb 7:10  For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

This Melchizedek priesthood is linked with the New Testament.
Heb 7:11  If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Heb 7:12  For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
Heb 7:13  For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
Heb 7:14  For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
Heb 7:15  And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
Heb 7:16  Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
Heb 7:17  For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 7:18  For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
Heb 7:19  For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Heb 7:20  And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
Heb 7:21  (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
Heb 7:22  By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
Heb 7:23  And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
Heb 7:24  But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
Heb 7:25  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Heb 7:26  For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Heb 7:27  Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Heb 7:28  For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
Heb 8:1  Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
Heb 8:2  A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
Heb 8:3  For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
Heb 8:4  For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
Heb 8:5  Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
Heb 8:6  But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Heb 8:7  For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
Heb 8:8  For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
Heb 8:9  Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Heb 8:10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Heb 8:11  And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
Heb 8:12  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Heb 8:13  In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Melchizedek brought forth bread and wine, a foreshadow of the body and blood of Messiah, the New Testament/Covenant.

Mat 26:26  And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
Mat 26:27  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Mat 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Mar 14:22  And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
Mar 14:23  And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
Mar 14:24  And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
Luk 22:19  And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Luk 22:20  Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 17:19: The Seed of Isaac

Gen 17:19  And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

The promise to Abraham passed to his son, Isaac.
Rom 9:7  Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

The Seed of the Promise is Messiah Jesus (Galatians 3:16) who came forth from the lineage of Isaac (Matthew 1:2).  It is through Messiah that we become Abraham’s seed (Galatians 3:29) and heirs according to the promise.  It is through Messiah that we become sons of God, children of the promise.

Rom 9:8  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

Gal 4:28  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Rom 8:16  The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God.
Rom 8:17  And if children, also heirs; truly heirs of God, and joint-heirs of Christ, if indeed we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together.
Rom 8:18  For I calculate that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to compare to the coming glory to be revealed in us.
Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits the revelation of the sons of God.
Rom 8:20  For the creation was not willingly subjected to vanity, but through Him subjecting it, on hope;
Rom 8:21  that also the creation will be freed from the slavery of corruption to the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
Rom 8:22  For we know that all the creation groans together and travails together until now.
Rom 8:23  And not only so, but also we ourselves having the firstfruit of the Spirit, also we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly expecting adoption, the redemption of our body;
Rom 8:24  for we were saved by hope, but hope being seen is not hope; for what anyone sees, why does he also hope?
Rom 8:25  But if we hope for what we do not see, through patience we wait eagerly.
Rom 8:26  And likewise the Spirit also joins in to help our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes on our behalf with groanings that cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:27  But the One searching the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He petitions on behalf of the saints according to God.
Rom 8:28  But we know that to the ones loving God all things work together for good, to those being called according to purpose;
Rom 8:29  because whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers.
Rom 8:30  But whom He predestinated, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 21:9-12: Son of the Freewoman

Gen 21:9  And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
Gen 21:10  Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
Gen 21:11  And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.
Gen 21:12  And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

The promise to Abraham was continued through Isaac, the child of promise, the son of the freewoman.

Rom 9:7  Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Rom 9:8  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Rom 9:9  For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

The birth of Isaac via the ‘dead womb’ of his mother Sarah was a foreshadowing of the birth of Messiah via the virgin (‘dead womb’) of Mary.

Rom 4:17  (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Rom 4:18  Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Rom 4:19  And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
Gen 18:11  Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Gen 18:12  Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
Gen 18:13  And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
Gen 18:14  Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Luk 1:30  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
Luk 1:31  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Luk 1:32  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Luk 1:33  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Luk 1:34  Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Luk 1:35  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The sons of the freewoman inherit the Heavenly City.

Gal 4:28  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Gal 4:22  For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
Gal 4:23  But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Gal 4:24  Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
Gal 4:25  For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal 4:26  But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Gal 4:27  For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Gal 4:28  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
Gal 4:29  But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
Gal 4:30  Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
Gal 4:31  So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

Through Messiah Jesus we have been given citzenship in the Jerusalem above.
Php 3:20  For our citizenship is in Heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Php 3:21  who will transform our body of humiliation, for it to be conformed to His body of glory, according to the working of Him to be able even to subject all things under Himself.

Eph 2:19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Col 1:13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Col 1:12  giving thanks to the Father, who has made us fit for a share of the inheritance of the saints in light,
Col 1:13  who delivered us out of the authority of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
Col 1:14  in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins;
Col 1:15  who is the image of the invisible God, the First-born of all creation.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 22:8: The Lamb of God promised

Gen 22:8  And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

Scripture declares this promise was fulfilled in Jesus
Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Joh 1:30  This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Joh 1:31  And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
Joh 1:35  Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
Joh 1:36  And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

The binding of Isaac was a prophetic foreshadow of the crucifixion of Messiah Jesus.

Heb 11:16  But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Heb 11:17  By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Heb 11:18  Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Heb 11:19  Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

Isaac was a son of promise (Gen 17:19; Lk 2:29-32).  His birth was foretold by an angel (Gen 18:10; Lk 1:26).  His birth was miraculous (Gen 18:13; Lk 1:34).  He was a blessing to world (Gen 22:18; Lk 2:29).  He was beloved by his father (Gen 22:2; Mt 3:17).  He was his father’s Only son (Gen 22:2; Jn 3:16) undeserving of death (Heb 7:26) carried the wood to the sacrifice (Gen 22:6; Jn 19:17) brought to the mount (Gen 22:2; Jn 19:17) went willingly to slaughter (Gen 22:9; Act 8:32) sacrificed (1 Cor 5:7) ‘resurrected’ (Hebrews 11:19; Act 2:31) lived to see offspring (Gen 25:21; Heb 2:10).

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 22:14: Abraham saw His day

Gen 22:14  And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

Jesus declared that Abraham saw His day.  This was a declaration that He was God who would provide Himself a lamb for the sacrifice.

Joh 8:56  Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Joh 8:57  Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Joh 8:58  Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Gen 22:14  ויקרא אברהם שׁם־המקום ההוא יהוה יראה אשׁר יאמר היום בהר יהוה יראה׃

Literally, in/on the mountain YHWH will be seen.

Abraham calls the place YHWH Yireh (YHWH will be seen) Yireh is in the Kal stem, 3rd person masculine singular future tense.

It is here on this mount that the Glory of the Lord was revealed.

Joh 12:35  Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
Joh 12:36  While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
Joh 12:37  But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
Joh 12:38  That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
Joh 12:39  Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
Joh 12:40  He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
Joh 12:41  These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

Jesus is the glory of YHWH God
Rev 1:15  And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Rev 21:23  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Messiah is the Lamb of God (John 1:29, 36; Revelation 5:6; 7:17; 14:10; 15:3; 19:9; 21:23; 22:1,3)

The Lamb and the 7 Spirits of God

Rev 5:6  And I saw, and behold, in the midst of the throne, and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, was a Lamb standing, as having been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, having been sent out into all the earth.

Isa 11:1  And a Shoot goes out from the stump of Jesse, and a Branch will bear fruit out of his roots.
Isa 11:2  And the Spirit of YHWH shall rest on Him; He will have the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and power, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YHWH.
Isa 11:3  And He is made to breathe in the fear of YHWH. But He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears.

The ‘Shoot’ of Jesse mentioned above is seen in the Olive tree

Rom 11:16  Now if the firstfruit is holy, so also the lump. And if the root is holy, so also the branches.

The Olive Tree of Israel is linked to the menorah (Zechariah 4:14) and the body of Messiah.

7 Branches of the Menorah correspond to the 7 continents

The center of the Menorah is the Messiah (the yarekh/body). The center of the earth is the land of Israel (Ezekiel 8:12), whose center is Jerusalem which is further divided into 7 mountains (1 Enoch 17:6-8; 24:1).  The center of Jerusalem is the Temple which contains the 7 branched menorah, the Holy of Holies is the center of the Temple and the Ark is placed in the center of the Holy of Holies which contains the 7 pillars of Wisdom (Proverbs 9:1) (Midrash Tanhuma).

The numerical value of ‘The Mountain of God’ הר האלהים is 296.  This is equivalent to  לאור גוים (For a light of the nations)

Isa 49:3  and said to Me, You are My servant, Israel, You in whom I shall be glorified.   This verse is referring to Messiah as Israel, the Olive tree
Isa 49:6  And He said, It is too little that You should be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You for a light of the nations, that You may be My salvation (Heb. Yeshuah) to the end of the earth.

Isa 42:6  I, YHWH, have called You in righteousness, and will hold Your hand, and will keep You, and give You for a covenant of the people, for a Light of the nations;

Luk 2:32  a Light for revelation to the nations, and the Glory of Your people Israel.

Isa 40:5  And the glory of YHWH shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of YHWH has spoken.

How was His glory revealed?

Joh 8:28  Then Jesus said to them, When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM; and from Myself I do nothing; but as My Father taught Me, these things I speak.

Joh 19:19  And Pilate also wrote a title and put it on the cross. And having been written, it was: JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself (John 8:28 Messiah states this is how they will know He is ‘I AM’).
Joh 12:33  But He said this, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.
Joh 12:34  The crowd answered Him, We heard out of the Law that The Christ remains to the age. And how do You say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?
Joh 12:35  Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while the Light is with you. Walk while you have the Light, that darkness not overtake you. And the one walking in the darkness does not know where he is going.
Joh 12:36  While you have the Light, believe into the Light, that you may become sons of Light. Jesus spoke these things, and going away He was hidden from them.
Joh 12:37  But though He had done so many miraculous signs before them, they did not believe into Him,
Joh 12:38  so that the Word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, “Lord, who has believed our report? And the arm of the Lord, to whom was it revealed?”
Isa. 53:1
Joh 12:39  Because of this they could not believe, because Isaiah said again,
Joh 12:40  “He has blinded their eyes” and “has hardened their heart,” “that they might not see with the eyes” and “understand with the heart,” “and be converted,” “and I should heal them.”
Isa. 6:10
Joh 12:41  Isaiah said these things when he saw His glory, and spoke about Him.

The pictographs of יהוה speak of Him being revealed through the nails in His Hands

Joh 20:27  Then He said to Thomas, Bring your finger here and see My hands, and bring your hand and thrust into My side, and be not unbelieving, but believing.
Joh 20:28  And Thomas answered and said to Him, My Lord and my God!

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 22:18: The Blessing secured

Gen 22:14  And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Gen 22:15  And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
Gen 22:16  And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
Gen 22:17  That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
Gen 22:18  And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Through the obedience of Messiah, the promise to Abraham was secured.  This promise to Abraham is the Gospel (Galatians 3:8) of the salvation of mankind, through which all the earth is blessed (Acts 3:25-26) through His Seed who is Jesus (Galatians 3:16).

The blessing of salvation was secured through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, of which the binding of Isaac was a figure.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 26:2-5: The Promise passed to Isaac

Gen 26:2  And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Gen 26:3  Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
Gen 26:4  And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Gen 26:5  Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

The promise was passed to Isaac as a result of Abraham’s faithfulness, in particular in his offering of his only begotten son.

It is through the faithfulness of God in offering His Son that believers receive the inheritance.

Rom 9:7  Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Rom 9:8  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

Psalm 22, which is about the crucifixion of Messiah, speaks of the seed of the Messiah.
Psa 22:30  A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
Psa 22:31  They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

This seed is spoken of in Isaiah 53 as well, another portion of Scripture speaking of the crucifixion of Messiah.

Isa 53:10  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

The offering of Messiah for the sins of mankind reveals the faithfulness of God.
Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Heb 2:9  But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Heb 2:10  For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Heb 2:11  For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Heb 2:12  Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
Heb 2:13  And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Heb 2:14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:18  For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Gal 4:28  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 28:12 – Jacob’s Ladder

Gen 28:10  And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
Gen 28:11  And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
Gen 28:12  And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
Gen 28:13  And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
Gen 28:14  And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 28:15  And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
Gen 28:16  And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
Gen 28:17  And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
Gen 28:18  And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
Gen 28:19  And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

Jesus likened Himself to the ladder which Jacob saw.
Joh 1:51  And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

It is here that the promise of Abraham and Isaac were passed to Jacob.  Jacob named this place Bethel which means house of God.  This is speaking of Messiah Jesus and His body.

Mat 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of
hell shall not prevail against it.
1Ti 3:15  But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Heb 3:1  Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Heb 3:2  Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
Heb 3:3  For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
Heb 3:4  For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
Heb 3:5  And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
Heb 3:6  But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
1Pe 2:4  To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
1Pe 2:5  Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Eph 2:11  Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Eph 2:15  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Eph 2:16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Eph 2:17  And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph 2:19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph 2:21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

1Ti 3:15  But if I delay, that you may know how to behave in the house of God, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 35:21: The Tower of Edar

Gen 35:21  And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

The ancients believed that this Scripture was a prophecy of where the Messiah would reveal Himself.

Targum: And Jakob proceeded and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder, the place from whence, it is to be, the King Meshiha will be revealed at the end of the days.

This tower is alluded to later by the prophet Micah.

Mic 4:8  And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.

John Gill commentary on Micah 4:8
O tower: The Targumist applies these words to the Messiah: “But thou, O Messiah, who art hidden because of the sins of the congregation of Zion, the kingdom shall come unto thee.” Psa_48:12-13; Isa_5:2; Mat_21:33; Mar_12:1

Micah 4:8
And thou, O tower of the flock,…. The words “Migdal Eder” are left by some untranslated, and think that place to be intended so called, which was near to Bethlehem, Gen_35:19; and perhaps is the same which Jerom (t) calls the tower of Ader, about a mile from Bethlehem: this is supposed to be the place where the shepherds were watching over their flocks at the time of Christ’s birth, the tidings of which were first brought to them here; and the Jewish (u) doctors speak of it as near Jerusalem, and as a place of pasture; for they say, that cattle between Jerusalem and Migdal Eder, and in an equal space to every wind; the males were used for burnt offerings, and the females for peace offerings; and this place is thought to be referred to in the latter clause of this verse: others think that Bethlehem itself is meant, to which the dominion came; but rather, as in the next chapter, the ruler came out of that; others think that the gate in Jerusalem called the sheep gate is meant, Neh_3:32; and the tower at it, through which Christ is supposed to pass when he entered into Jerusalem as King, amidst the Hosannahs of the people; others take it to be the same with the tower of David, and put for Jerusalem itself, whither the tribes were gathered together three times a year, like sheep in a fold, so Kimchi and Ben Melech; here others interpret it spiritually of the church of Christ; but though that is sometimes spoken of as a strong city, and a fortified place, yet is never called a tower, or a strong hold; which phrases, when figuratively used, are always spoken of a divine person; see Psa_18:2; and here of the Messiah; and so the Targum interprets it,

“O Christ of Israel:”

the church indeed is the “flock”: the people of God are often compared to sheep for their harmlessness and innocence, and the church to a flock of them, which is Christ’s flock he feeds like a shepherd; the flock of slaughter, a little one, consisting of persons separated from the world, and under his peculiar care; and he is the tower of this flock, in allusion to a shepherd’s cottage, called a tower, as a cottage in a vineyard is in Isa_5:2; where the shepherds watch, and into which they bring the sick and lame, and take care of them; Christ is a high tower, where his people are safe out of the reach of their enemies; and a strong one, being the mighty God and mighty Saviour, who has all power and strength to defend his church and people, and may be well called their tower: and

the strong hold of the daughter of Zion; “the daughter of Zion” is the church, particularly the church of the converted Jews; Christ is the strong hold of it, into which, as prisoners of hope, they will be directed to turn, Zec_9:12; a strong refuge he is to flee unto from the avenger of blood, the justice of God; from the curses of the law; from the storm of divine wrath; from the temptations of Satan, and from the persecutions of men; a strong hold is he to dwell in, and where the saints dwell safely, pleasantly, at ease and peace, and very comfortably, and in great plenty; a strong hold for shelter from every enemy:

unto thee shall it come; not the kingdom, as follows, which our version leads to, and is the sense of Aben Ezra; for there is a considerable accent on the word “come”, which makes a large stop; and that it refers, as Jarchi observes, to “her that halteth”, &c. “it” or “she” that halteth shall come, being assembled and gathered, or converted by the grace of God unto the Messiah; as to her, or their tower and strong hold, where all blessings of grace, and the supplies of it, and all salvation and safety, are to be had and enjoyed. The promise respects the Jews coming to Christ upon their conversion, even such who have been the halt, the maimed, the lame, and the blind:

even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem; or rather, “and the first dominion shall come, the kingdom to the daughter of Jerusalem”: meaning, not the first notice of the Messiah’s kingdom, given by John the Baptist, Christ, and his apostles, to the Jews, in the first times of the Gospel; or the preaching of the Gospel of the kingdom first to them; but rather he who has the first or principal dominion, and to whom the kingdom belongs, he shall come to the daughter of Zion, as in Zec_9:9; though it rather respects here his coming to them at the time of their conversion, when they shall come to him, Rom_11:26; and when the first, chief, and principal kingdom in the world, and which is preferable to all others, will come unto, and be placed among them, as in Mic_4:7; and when it shall be, as some interpret it, as at the beginning, in the days of David and Solomon, and much more abundantly.

This ancient prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus.

Luk 2:4  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Luk 2:5  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
Luk 2:6  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
Luk 2:7  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luk 2:8  And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luk 2:9  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
Luk 2:10  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Luk 2:11  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luk 2:12  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Luk 2:13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Luk 2:14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luk 2:15  And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
Luk 2:16  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
Luk 2:17  And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
Luk 2:18  And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
Luk 2:19  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Luk 2:20  And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Why was Jesus born in a manger?

“Many do not realize that Micah further prophesied that kingship would come to the “Daughter of Jerusalem” at Migdal Eder: Micah 4:8 “As for you, O watchtower of the flock [Hebrew Migdal Eder], O stronghold of the Daughter of Zion, the former dominion will be restored to you; kingship will come to the Daughter of Jerusalem.” Migdal Eder was a watchtower located in the northern part of Bethlehem built to protect the Temple flocks. “During lambing season the sheep were brought there from the fields, as the lower level functioned as the birthing room for sacrificial lambs.” Priestly shepherds “would wrap the newborn lambs in swaddling clothes” and place them in a manger “until they calmed down” to keep them “without defect”, suitable to be sacrificial lambs for the sin of the Israelites. Bethlehem was special because the shepherds in the fields of Bethlehem raised lambs for the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. The shepherds who heard the angelic choir and came to see the baby Jesus were certainly familiar with the technique to birth a sacrificial lamb, and were likely puzzled by why a baby was birthed in the manner and location of a sacrificial lamb. In fact the angels did not have to tell the shepherds precisely where to go in Bethlehem to find Jesus, because there was only one manger where sacrificial lambs were birthed, the cave under the watch tower of Migdal Edar.”

Where was the Birth Place of the Lord Jesus?

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 38:29: Descendant of Pharez

Gen 38:27  And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
Gen 38:28  And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
Gen 38:29  And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.
Gen 38:30  And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

The ancients believed that King Messiah was to come through the lineage of Pharez.  This belief traced back to an interpretation of the word ‘generation’ first seen in Genesis 2:4.  In Genesis 2:4 the word תולדות ‘toledot,’ which means generations, is spelled with two ו ‘vavs.’  This word is only spelled like this in one other place in Scripture which is Ruth 4:18 speaking of Pharez as the forefather of King David from whom would come the Messiah.  The letter vav is the sixth letter in the Hebrew alphabet.  Six is the number of man.  This led to the belief that after the fall of man in the Garden the word תולדות ‘toledot’ was only spelled with one vav.  The two vav’s of Ruth 4:18 was believed to be a prophecy that Messiah would restore man to his original state (1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 45-49; Romans 5:12-21).

This prophecy of the Messiah coming forth from Pharez was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 1:3).

John Gill Commentary on Matthew 1:3

And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar,…. The genealogical account of Christ goes on from Judah in the line of Phares, with whom Zara is mentioned; not because they were twins, for so were Jacob and Esau, and yet the latter is taken no notice of; but it may be because of what happened at their birth, see Gen_38:28. But the line of the Messiah was in Phares, and very rightly is he put in the genealogy of Christ, the Jews themselves being witnesses; who expressly say, that “the Messiah comes from him.” These two are said to be begotten of Thamar, daughter-in-law to Judah; who, though she was a Canaanitish woman, has the honour to be named in the genealogy of Christ, who came to save Gentiles as well as Jews: nor can the Jews reproach our Evangelist for putting her into the account; since they themselves frequently acknowledge that the Messiah was to spring from her: they say,

“there are two women from whom come David the king, and Solomon, and the king Messiah; and these two are Thamar and Ruth.”  {Shemot Rabba, sect. 30. fol. 131. 4. Caphtor, fol. 122. 1.}

The ancients connected Isaiah’s prophecy of mankind’s victory over death (Isaiah 25:8) with Messiah, the descendant of Pharez.

“the Messiah shall descend from Pharez, and in his day the holy blessed God will cause death to be swallowed up, as it is said, “he shall swallow up death in victory”  {Shemot Rabba, sect. 20. fol. 131. 4.}

“when the King Messiah comes, the holy blessed God will raise up those that sleep in the dust, as it is written, he shall swallow up death in victory:” {Zohar in Gen. fol. 73. 1}

Isa 25:8  He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
Isa 25:9  And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation {ישׁוּעה ‘yeshuah’}.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 49:8: King from Judah

Gen 49:8  Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.

On his deathbed, Jacob prophesied that the King of Israel would come forth from the lineage of Judah.  Through David, who was of the tribe of Judah, the throne would be established (2 Samuel 3:10; 2 Chronicles 7:18; Psalm 89:3-4, 33-37; 132:11) and the promise of Messiah the King would be given (Psalm 2:1-12; 72:1-17; 45:1-17; Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:15; Isaiah 9:7; 11:1-5; 40:10-11; Zechariah 9:9; Daniel 9:24; Luke 1:32, 69-70; Acts 2:30; Hebrews 1:8-9; 7:14).

John Gill commentary on Genesis 49:8

thy father’s children shall bow down before thee; before the kings that should spring from this tribe, and should rule over all the rest, as David and Solomon, to whom civil adoration and respect were given by them; and before the King Messiah, his son and antitype, in a way of religious worship, which is given him by the angels, the sons of God, and by all the saints and people of God, who are his father’s children by adoption; these bow before him, and give him religious adoration as a divine Person, and submit to his righteousness as Mediator, and bow to the sceptre of his kingdom, and cast their crowns at his feet, and give him the glory of their whole salvation. This in some Jewish writings (n) is applied to the time of the Messiah’s coming.

(n) Zohar in Gen. fol. 127. 2.

Scripture declares this was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth.

Prophecies of Messiah – Genesis 49:10: Shiloh

Gen 49:10  The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Judah prophesied that the throne would be given to Judah and would remain with him until the coming of Shiloh.  Ancient Jewish sources believed that Shiloh was the Messiah.

John Gill commentary on Genesis 49:10
until Shiloh come; which all the three Targums interpret of the Messiah, as do many of the Jewish writers, ancient and modern (p); and is the name of the Messiah in their Talmud (q), and in other writings (r); and well agrees with him, coming from a root which signifies to be “quiet”, “peaceable”, and “prosperous”; as he was of a quiet and peaceable disposition, came to make peace between God and men, and made it by the blood of his cross, and gives spiritual peace to all his followers, and brings them at length to everlasting peace and happiness; having prospered and succeeded in the great work of their redemption and salvation he undertook:

“Kings and rulers shall not cease from the house of Judah…until King Messiah comes.” [Targum Jonathan]

“Rabbi Johanan said, ‘The world was created for the sake of the Messiah, what is this Messiah’s name?’ The school of Rabbi Shila said, ‘his name is Shiloh, for it is written, until Shiloh comes. (Genesis 49:10)’” [Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 98b]

Targum Onkelos states: “He who excerciseth dominion shall not pass away from the house of Jehuda, nor the saphra from his children’s children until the Messiah come.”

Additionally, the Targum Jerusalem declares that, “Kings shall not cease from the house of Jehuda… until the time that the King Meshiha shall come… How beauteous is the King Meshiha who is to arise from the house of Jehuda.”

Finally, the Targum Palestine indicates:  “Kings shall not cease, nor rulers from the house of Judah … nor sapherim teaching the Law from his seed, till the time that the King the Messiah shall come, who will arise from Jehuda.”

In fact one of the names of Messiah is Shiloh, a name derived from this very passage: R. Johannan asked what was the name of the Messiah; they of the school of R. Schilo answered, “His name is Shiloh, according to that which is written, ‘until Shiloh come.’” (Sanhedrin 98b)

שילה ‘Shiloh’ comes from the root word שלו ‘shelo’ which means peace and tranquilness.  This peace would come through the Prince of Peace.

Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Joh 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Joh 16:33  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Eph 2:14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Col 1:20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Luk 1:78  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
Luk 1:79  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Php 4:6  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Php 4:7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The Prince of Peace is the ruler of Israel, and the world
Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Scripture declares this was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth
Rev 19:16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Mat 11:27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Because all things are delivered unto Him, He gives us rest or “Shiloh”.
Mat 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Mat 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

1Co 15:25  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

Eph 1:20  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21  Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22  And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Eph 1:23  Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 3:13-14: I AM

Exo 3:13  And Moses said to God, Behold, I shall come to the sons of Israel and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you; and they will say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them?
Exo 3:14  And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM; and He said, You shall say this to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.

When YHWH God spoke to Moses in preparation to deliver the children of Israel, He revealed Himself as “I AM”.  Scripture declares that Jesus of Nazareth is I AM, as He was sent to deliver Israel from their bondage to sin.

Isa 43:25  I, even I, am He who blots out your trespasses for My sake; and I will not remember your sins.

Joh 8:24  Therefore, I said to you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.

Joh 8:28  Then Jesus said to them, When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM; and from Myself I do nothing; but as My Father taught Me, these things I speak.

Messiah on the cross reveals He is “I AM”.

Joh 8:56  Your father Abraham leaped for joy that he should see My day, and he saw, and rejoiced.
Joh 8:57  Then the Jews said to Him, You do not yet have fifty years, and have You seen Abraham?
Joh 8:58  Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham came to be, I AM!

Joh 13:18  I do not speak concerning all of you; I know whom I chose out; but that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “The one eating the bread with Me lifted up his heel against Me.” Psa. 41:9
Joh 13:19  From this time I tell you before it happens, that when it happens you may believe that I AM.

Joh 18:7  Then again He asked, Whom do you seek? And they said, Jesus the Nazarene.
Joh 18:8  Jesus answered, I told you that I AM; then if you seek Me, allow these to depart,
Joh 18:9  (that the Word might be fulfilled which He said, “Of those whom You gave to Me, I lost not one of them).”
Mar 14:61  But He was silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest questioned Him, and said to Him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
Mar 14:62  And Jesus said, I AM! And you will see the Son of Man sitting off the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of the heaven.
Psa. 110:1; Dan. 7:13

The phrase ἐγώ εἰμι (ego eimi) in Greek & אהיה אשׁר אהיה (ehyeh asher ehyeh) in Hebrew = אנא אנא (ene na) in Aramaic.

Aramaic English Interlinear New Testament – David Bauscher pg 255 commentary on John 8:24

אנא אנא (ene na) here stands by itself: Our Lord said that thow who do not believe ‘Ena Na’ shal die in their sins.  This is not a reference to faith in the existence of Jesus (‘I exist’), which the Pharisees were quite well aware of, but rather a reference to faith in the Deity of Jesus (‘I AM the Living God’)…Thirty two times it (Peshitta) refers to Yeshua Meshikha as Maryah (The Lord Jehovah) and 25 times as ‘Ena na’ (‘I AM the Living God’).

Joh 8:24  I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.

Why does Messiah Jesus say that we must believe that He is the ‘I AM’ or we can’t be saved?  It is because man can’t save us from our sins.

Psa 49:7  A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,
Psa 49:8  for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever,
Psa 49:9  for he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption.

Man can’t save us
Deu 24:16  The fathers shall not die for sons, and sons shall not die for fathers; they each shall die for his own sin.
Eze 14:14  And though these three men were in its midst, Noah, Daniel, and Job, by their righteousness they should deliver only their souls, declares the Lord YHWH.
Eze 14:20  though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in its midst, as I live, declares the Lord YHWH, they would deliver neither son nor daughter; they by their righteousness would deliver only their souls.

However, mankind must be saved by a kinsman redeemer (Leviticus 25:25, 47-55

Heb 2:10  For it was fitting for Him, because of whom are all things, and through whom are all things, having brought many sons to glory, to perfect Him as the Author of their salvation through sufferings.
Heb 2:11  For both the One sanctifying and the ones being sanctified are all of one; for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brothers,
Heb 2:12  saying, “I will announce Your name to My brothers; I will hymn to You in the midst of the assembly.”
Psa. 22:22
Heb 2:13  And again, “I will be trusting on Him.” Isa. 8:17 And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God gave to Me.” Isa. 8:18
Heb 2:14  Since, then, the children have partaken of flesh and blood, in like manner He Himself also shared the same things, that through death He might cause to cease the one having the power of death, that is, the devil;
Heb 2:15  and might set these free, as many as by fear of death were subject to slavery through all the lifetime to live.
Heb 2:16  For indeed He does not take hold of angels, “but He takes hold of” “the seed of Abraham.”
Isa. 41:8, 9

Rom 8:3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Only YHWH is our Savior

Isa 43:11  I, I am YHWH; and there is no Savior besides Me.
Hos 13:4  Yet I am YHWH, your God from the land of Egypt; and you shall know no other gods than Me. For there is no Savior besides Me.
Luk 1:46  And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
Luk 1:47  and my spirit exulted in God My Savior.
Psa 146:3  Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help
(teshuah).
Psa 60:11  Give us help against our oppressor, for vain is the deliverance (teshuah) of man.

Hos 1:7  And I will have mercy on the house of Judah and will save them by YHWH their God. And I will not save them by bow or by sword, or by battle, by horses, or by horsemen.

However it is clear that Jesus is described as our Savior…Jesus is YHWH.

Act 4:11  This One is the Stone counted worthless by you the builders, the One who has come to be into the Head of the Corner; Psa. 118:22
Act 4:12  and there is salvation in no other One, for neither is there any other name under Heaven having been given among men by which we must be saved.
Tit 2:13  looking for the blessed hope and appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
Tit 3:4  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5  not by works in righteousness which we had done, but according to His mercy, He saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
Tit 3:6  whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ, our Savior;
2Pe 3:18  But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
1Jn 4:14  And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 12:5: A Lamb Without Blemish

Exo 12:5  Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

The Passover Lamb was a foreshadowing of Jesus of Nazareth.

1Co 5:7  Then purge out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For also Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us.

Rom 3:24  being justified freely by His grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus,
Rom 3:25  whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, as a demonstration of His righteousness through the passing over of the sins that had taken place before, in the forbearance of God,
Rom 3:26  for a demonstration of His righteousness in the present time, for His being just and justifying the one that is of the faith of Jesus.

The Greek word ‘passing over’ in verse 25 is πάρεσις ‘paresis’ which is translated in the King James Version as remission.  Webster defines remission as a ‘release,’ ‘forgiveness,’ or ‘pardon.’  The giving up of the punishment due to a crime.

Messiah is the Lamb of God, sacrificed for the sins of mankind (Isaiah 53:7; John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:19; Revelation 5:6, 12).

Isa 53:7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Joh 1:36  And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

1Pe 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1Pe 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Rev 5:6  And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Rev 5:7  And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
Rev 5:8  And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
Rev 5:9  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Rev 5:10  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Rev 5:11  And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Rev 5:12  Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
Rev 5:13  And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
Rev 5:14  And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 12:13: The Blood of the Lamb Saves from Wrath

Exo 12:13  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

The blood of the Passover lamb was a foreshadowing of the blood of Messiah, which saves mankind from wrath.

Rom 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Rom 5:10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Joh 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
1Th 1:10  And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

The blood of the lamb was a token/sign which brought redemption to Israel.  The blood of Jesus of Nazareth is a sign which brings redemption to mankind.  It is the seal of believers that we belong to YHWH God.

Rev 1:5  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Rev 1:6  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

2Ti 2:19  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Eph 1:8  which He caused to abound toward us in all wisdom and understanding,
Eph 1:9  making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
Eph 1:10  for the administration of the fullness of the times to head up all things in Christ, both the things in the heavens, and the things on earth, in Him,
Eph 1:11  in whom we also have been chosen to an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of the One working all things according to the counsel of His own will,
Eph 1:12  for us to be to the praise of His glory, the ones who had previously trusted in Christ;

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 12:46: Not a Bone Broken

Exo 12:46  In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.

Not a bone of the Passover lamb was to be broken.  This was a foreshadowing of Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified, yet without a bone broken.

Joh 19:33  But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
Joh 19:34  But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
Joh 19:35  And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
Joh 19:36  For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 15:2: YHWH will be my Salvation

Exo 15:2  The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Exo 15:2  עזי וזמרת יה ויהי־לי לישׁועה זה אלי ואנוהו אלהי אבי וארממנהו׃

In Hebrew this text literally says, YHWH will become my “Yeshuah” (the Hebrew name of Jesus).

We see this same concept in Isaiah 12 and Psalm 118.

Isa 12:2  Behold, God is my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, for my strength and song is Yah YHWH; yea, He has become my salvation*

Isa 12:3  And you shall draw waters out of the wells of salvation* with joy.

*H3444
ישׁוּעה
yeshû‛âh

Psa 118:14  YHWH is my strength and my song; and He is my salvation (ישׁוּעה ‘yeshuah’).
Psa 118:15  The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of YHWH works mightily.
Psa 118:16  The right hand of YHWH is exalted; the right hand of YHWH acts mightily.

On a deeper level, this concept of YHWH becoming Jesus can be seen by the following chart:

By taking the numerical value of Adonai (Lord) which is 65 and searching for the 65th letter of the Torah the letter yod is found.  Ehyeh asher Ehyeh (I AM) equals 543, the 543rd letter of Torah is hey.  Messiah equals 548 which comes to the letter vav and Yeshua equals 386 which comes to the letter hey.  Hence, YHWH = Adonai, I AM = Messiah Jesus.

Messiah YHWH

Luk 2:11  because today a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, was born to you in the city of David.

Luk 2:11  ὅτι ἐτέχθη ὑμῖν σήμερον σωτὴρ, ὅς ἐστι Χριστὸς Κύριος, ἐν πόλει Δαυΐδ.

χριστος κυριος (Christos Kurios) occurs in the Septuagint in Lamentations 4:20

Lam 4:20  The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of YHWH (Messiah of YHWH), was captured in their pits; of whom we said, In His shadow we will live among the nations.

Literally =Messiah YHWH

Jer 23:5  Behold, the days come, says YHWH, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and act wisely, and He shall do justice and righteousness in the earth.
Jer 23:6  In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely. And this is His name by which He shall be called, YHWH our Righteousness.

John Gill commentary

“That the Messiah is here meant is acknowledged by the Jews, ancient and modern: T. Bab. Bava Bathra, fol. 75. 2. Echa Rabbati, fol. 50. 1. R. Saadiah Gaon in Dan vii. 13. R. Albo, Sepher Ikkarim, l. 2. c. 28. Abarbinel, Mashmiah Jeshuah. fol. 35. 2. Caphtor fol. 87. 1. Yalkut Simeoni, par. 2. fol. 75. 2. Kimchi in loc. & in Ezek. xlviii. 35. & Ben Melech in loc.”

the Targum (of Lam 4:20), in the king of Spain’s Bible, is,

“the King Messiah, who was beloved by us, as the breath of the spirit of life, which is in our nostrils.”

The Aramaic Peshitta translation of Luke 2:11 translates ‘Christ the Lord’ as Maryah Meshikah

The Aramaic word ‘MarYah’ is used to translated YHWH over 6,000 times in the Peshitta Old Testament

Compendious Syriac by R. Payne Smith (Oxford University Press, 1902; Reprinted by Wipf and Stock Publishers, 1999), p. 2983

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 15:11: Who is Like God?

Exo 15:11  Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

The Prophet Micah associates this concept of “who is like God” to forgiveness of sins and links it to the Promise to the fathers:

Mic 7:18  Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
Mic 7:19  He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
Mic 7:20  Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

It was through their deliverance that Israel saw that the Lord became their salvation or their ישועה ‘yeshuah’ (Exodus 14:13; 15:2).

Exodus 15:2  The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation {ישועה ‘yeshuah’}: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

King David also associates this question of ‘who is like God’ with His salvation.

Psalm 35:9  And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation {ישועה ‘yeshuah’}.
Psalm 35:10  All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Promise to the fathers, who would bring forgiveness and salvation to mankind.

Luk 1:68  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
Luk 1:69  And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
Luk 1:70  As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
Luk 1:71  That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
Luk 1:72  To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
Luk 1:73  The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
Luk 1:74  That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
Luk 1:75  In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
Luk 1:76  And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
Luk 1:77  To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
Luk 1:78  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
Luk 1:79  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luk 1:80  And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 17:6: The Rock of Israel

Exo 17:6  Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Scripture declares that this Rock, spiritually, was Messiah Jesus.

1Co 10:3  And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
1Co 10:4  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Messiah, the Rock, gives the living waters.

Joh 4:10  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Joh 4:11  The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
Joh 4:12  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
Joh 4:13  Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
Joh 4:14  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Joh 7:37  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
Joh 7:38  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Joh 7:39  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Isa 12:2  Behold, God is my salvation {ישועה ‘yeshuah’}; I will trust, and not be afraid: for Yah YHWH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation {ישועה ‘yeshuah’}.
Isa 12:3  Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation {ישועה ‘yeshuah’}.

ישועה ‘yeshuah’ is the source of the name Jesus.

Psa 36:7  How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
Psa 36:8  They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures { עדן‛eden}
Psa 36:9  For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Rev 21:6  And He said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the Ending. To the one thirsting, I will freely give of the fountain of the Water of Life.
Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! And the one hearing, let him say, Come! And the one thirsting, let him come; and the one desiring, let him take of the water of life freely.
Isa 51:3  For YHWH comforts Zion. He comforts all her desolations, and He makes her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of YHWH; joy and gladness shall be found in it, thanksgiving and the voice of singing praise.

Psa 36:9  For with You is the fountain {מקור ‘maqor’} of life; in Your light we see light.

Lev 12:7  And he shall bring it near before YHWH, and shall atone for her; and she shall be cleansed from the fountain of her blood; this is the law of her who bears, whether a male or a female.

1Jn 5:5  Who is the one overcoming the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
1Jn 5:6  This is the One coming through water and blood, Jesus Christ; not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the One witnessing, because the Spirit is the truth.
1Jn 5:7  For there are three bearing witness in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
1Jn 5:8  And there are three who bear witness on the earth: The Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three are to the one.

The Spirit, the water, and the blood are one.  The Spirit is likened to the living waters (John 7:37-39), the living waters come forth from His throne (Revelation 21:6; 22:1-2, 14)  How does the blood connect to this?  Our bodies are a picture of His Temple.  His throne = the human heart from whence flows the river of life (blood)…

The eternal organs in our bodies are a shadow picture of the Kingdom.  Our bodies are His Temple (Ephesians 2:21-22; 5:30; 1 Corinthians 6:19).   In the book of Revelation (Chapter 4) John is shown a vision of the Throne of Elohim.  Around the throne and the 4 living creatures are 24 elders (Revelation 4:4) representing the 24 ribs surrounding the human heart.  From the heart blood is pumped to the Lungs.  As seen in Messiah in the Torah: Genesis 1:2-5 , the etymology of the English word ‘Lung’ traces back to the meaning of Light.  In our bodies our lungs have 7 vascular bundles called nodes.  These represent the 7 Spirits of God (Revelation 4:5; Isaiah 11:1-3).  These 7 Spirits/Ruach/Breathe are pictured in the earthly Tabernacle/Temple by the Menorah.  The Menorah is a picture of the Tree of Life.  The Light of the world.

Rev 4:5  And out of the throne come forth lightnings and thunders and voices. And seven lamps of fire are burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God;

The lightning corresponds to the electrical activity of the heart.  The thunderings are the ‘Lub Dub‘ of the heart.

The Aramaic Targums connect the Rock to the water and the blood spoken of in 1 John 5:5-8.

John Gill commentary on Numbers 20:11
And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice,…. At first it only brought out some drops, as Jarchi conjectures, and therefore Moses smote again, when it brought forth water plentifully: the Targum of Jonathan says,”at the first time it dropped blood, at the second time came out much water.”Could this be credited, it would make the agreement between this rock and Christ appear very manifest, from whom, when his side was pierced with a spear, there came out blood and water, John 19:34 for justification and sanctification. In what respect this rock was a type of Christ, as the other at Horeb, and the smiting of it an emblem of Christ being smitten with the rod of justice, according to the law of God, and of the abundance of water flowing from it, as typical of the abundance of grace, and the blessings of it, as coming through a smitten wounded Saviour; see Gill on Exodus 17:6, where the same things are said of another rock as of this, and both types of Christ:

and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also; there was enough for them and their cattle; for it came out in great quantities, in large streams, so that it ran down like a river, and which gave them drink as out of the great depths, Psalm 78:15, where the Psalmist makes mention of rocks in the plural number, for there were two that were smitten in two different places, and at two different times; the one was at Rephidim, the other, as here, in Kadesh; the one was in the first year of Israel’s coming out of Egypt, this in the fortieth year of it; that was struck but once, this twice; of this second stone no mention is made by any traveller but one (a), who coming from Mount Sinai, says,”we passed by a large rock on our left hand, in which, as in the other rock which Moses struck with his rod, appear, from the bottom to the top, openings where water hath gushed out.”

Psalm 36 associates drinking His living waters to abiding under the shadow of His Wings.  Scripture links the Rock to this same concept.

Cleft of the Rock (Little Guy in the Eye)

Psa 71:5  For You are my hope, O Lord YHWH, my trust from my youth.

Psa 71:6  I have rested on You from the belly; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb; my praise shall be always of You.

Psa 91:16 I will satisfy him with length of days (eternal life), and will make Him see My salvation (Hebrew: ישׁוּעה ‘yeshua’ the source of the name Jesus).

Here we can see that those who abide in the shadow of His wings will be protected from adversity, they will be given eternal life and will see Jesus.

Psa 61:2  From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart faints; Oh lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. (Again we see the Rock associated with abiding under His wings)

Psa 61:4  I will dwell in Your tabernacle* forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.

Samson dwelling in the cleft of the Rock (Messiah) at Etam (Eagles wings).

The root word of עיטם ‘Etam’ is עט.

ayit

Here we see that the word Etam means an eagle’s wings in the sense of wrapping.  Samsom dwelt in the cleft of the Rock (Rock = Messiah 1 Cor 10:4) in the city of Etam (wrapped in eagles wings).

It is also interesting that the word for pen/stylus comes from this same root word and is associated with the eagle’s/bird of prey’s talons. This is yet another association of the eagles wing’s with the Word.

ayit 2
Abiding under the shadow of His wings = abiding in the Word/Messiah.

Dwelling in the cleft of the Rock is also teaching about intimate relationship with the Almighty.

Exo 33:18  And he said, I pray, let me see Your glory.

Exo 33:19  And He said, I will cause all My goodness to pass before your face. And I will call out* the name of YHWH before your face. And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy.

Exo 33:21  And YHWH said, Behold, a place by Me! And you shall stand on a rock.

Exo 33:22  And as My glory is passing it will be that I will put you in a cleft of the rock; and I will cover My hand over you during My passing.

1Ki 19:9  And he came there to the cave, and lodged there; and behold, the Word of YHWH came to him, and said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?

1Ki 19:12  And after the earthquake was a fire, but YHWH was not in the fire; and after the fire came a still, small voice.

The still, small voice of YHWH is what we hear when we are walking intimately with Him.

Scripture defines YHWH as the Rock.  Jesus is YHWH/THE LORD.

Psa 18:2  The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Psa 18:31  For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?

Psa 92:15  To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
Deu 32:3  Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
Deu 32:4  He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Isa 44:8  Do not dread, nor be afraid. Have I not declared and made you hear since then? So you are My witnesses: Is there a God besides Me? Yea, there is none. I have not known a Rock.

Gen 49:24  His bow abides in strength, and the hands of his arms are made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, from the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel.

Rashi commentary on Genesis 49:24

The word for Rock is אבן (eben).  Rashi (Genesis 49:24) comments, the word eben, rock (a symbol of permanency), is a contraction of the words av ooben, father and son.

Prophecies of Messiah – Exodus 17:16: War with Amalek

Exo 17:16  And he said, A hand is on the throne of Yah; war is to YHWH with Amalek from generation to generation.

Ancient Jewish belief spoke of Messiah, the Word, warring against and ultimately defeating Amalek.

Targum Jonathan
Exod 17.16 “from the generation of this world, and from the generation of the Messiah, and from the generation of the World-to-Come.”

Aramaic Targum
“And the Lord said unto Mosheh, Write this memorial in the book of the elders that were of old, and these words in the hearing, of Jehoshua, that blotting, I will blot out the memory of Amalek from under the heavens. And Mosheh builded an altar, and called the name of it, The Word of the Lord is my banner; for the sign which He hath wrought (in this) place was on my behalf. And he said, Because the Word of the Lord hath sworn by the throne of His glory, that He by His Word will fight against those of the house of Amalek, and destroy them unto three generations; from the generation of this world, from the generation of the Meshiha, and from the generation of the world to come.”

Jerusalem Targum
“And he said, The oath hath come forth from beneath the throne of the Great One, of all the world the Lord; the first king who will sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the sons of Israel, Shaul, the son of Kish, will set the battle in array against the house of Amalek, and will slay them; and those of them that remain will Mardekai and Esther destroy. The Lord hath said by His Word that the memory of Amalek shall perish to the age of ages.”

“Keep in mind what the house of Amalek did unto you in the way, on your coming up out of Mizraim; how they overtook you in the way, and slew every one of those among you who were thinking to go aside from My Word; the men of the tribe of the house of Dan, in whose hands were idols (or things. of strange worship), and the clouds overcast them, and they of the house of Amalek took them and mutilated them, and they were cast up: but you, O house of Israel, were faint and weary from great servitude of the Mizraee, and the terrors of the waves of the sea through the midst of which you had passed. Nor were the house of Amalek afraid before the Lord. [JERUSALEM. Who overtook you in the way, and slew among you those who were thinking to desist from My Word, the cloud overcast him, and they of the house of Amalek took him and slew him. But you, people of the sons of Israel, were weary and faint; nor were they of the house of Amalek afraid before the Lord.] Therefore, when the Lord hath given you rest from all your enemies round about in the land that the Lord Your God giveth you to inherit for a possession, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under the heavens; but of the days of the King Meshiha you shall not be unmindful.”

The Targum states that Amalek attacked those who were being tempted to go aside from the Word.  Today a spiritual counterpart would be those who attack believers who are in a season of doubt. Those who attack the deity of Messiah or His “Messiahship”.   Those who attack the inerrancy of the Holy Scriptures.

The Amalekites are associated with the Nephilim….are the true Amalekites those who attack believers in the end of days and their faith in the Holy Scriptures when fallen angels return to earth?

Num 13:28  But the people that live in the land are fierce, and the cities are walled up, very great. And also we have seen the children of Anak there.
Num 13:29  Amalek lives in the land of the Negeb, and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the hills. And the Canaanite is living by the sea, and beside the Jordan.
Num 13:30  And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, We will certainly go up, and we will seize it, for we are well able to do it.
Num 13:31  And the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for it is stronger than we.
Num 13:32  And they sent out an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, The land into which we passed, to spy it out, is a land eating up the ones living in it. And all the people we saw in its midst were men of stature.
Num 13:33  And we saw the giants there, the sons of Anak, of the giants. And we were in our own eyes as grasshoppers, and so we were in their eyes.

Amalek – Phoenicia connection

Historians claim that the royal houses of Europe are the descendants of Merovee who, in turn, was descened from a supposed marriage of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.  However, Merovee claimed to have descended from the Trojans, whose roots lay in the Spartans of ancient Greece.  According to Homer’s Iliad, the Spartans were first called Danaans, and hailed from Phoenicia, home of the Israelite tribe of Dan.  Recall that the Targums associate Amalek with the tribe of Dan as well.

Gen 14:7  And they turned back and came to Enmishpat which is Kadesh, and struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who lived in Hazazon Thamar.

John Gill commentary
and smote all the country of the Amalekites; which, according to Josephus (k), reached from Pelusium in Egypt to the Red sea; they inhabited Arabia Petraea, for he (l) says, the inhabitants of Gobolitis and Petra are called Amalekites; which name is generally supposed to have been given them here by way of anticipation, since the commonly received opinion is, that they were the descendants of Amalek, a grandson of Esau, who was not born when this war was waged, see Gen_36:12; but the Mahometan writers derive the pedigree of Amalek, from whom these people had their name, from Noah in the line of Ham, and make him to be some generations older than Abram, which with them stands thus, Noah, Ham, Aram, Uz, Ad, Amalek (m); and they speak of the Amalekites as dwelling in the country about Mecca, from whence they were driven by the Jorhamites (n): and indeed it seems more probable that the Amalekites were of the posterity of Ham, since Chedorlaomer, a descendant of Shem, falls upon them, and smites them; and they being confederates with the Canaanites, and are with the Amorites, Philistines, and other Canaanitish nations, always mentioned, seem to be a more ancient nation than what could proceed from Amalek the son of Eliphaz, since Amalek is said to be the first of the nations, Num_24:20; nor does there ever appear to be any harmony and friendship between them and the Edomites, as it might be thought there would, if they were a branch of Esau’s family; nor did they give them any assistance, when destroyed by Saul, so that they seem rather to be a tribe of the Canaanitish nations; and they are, by Philo (o) the Jew, expressly called Phoenicians:

The link between the supposed ancestors of the Merovingians and Phoenicia is interesting.  The word Phoenicia comes from the Greek word Φοινίκη ‘Phoenike’ which literally means palm tree but is also the source of the English word Phoenix.  The phoenix is the symbol of death and resurrection mentioned in detail throughout the series of studies on the mark of the beast.

Another interesting link to Phoenicia is that the land and people are associated with Amalek, the eternal enemy of YHWH who seeks His throne (Exodus 17:13-16).  Amalek was the first of the nations (Numbers 24:20) which existed in the days of Abraham (Genesis 14:7).  They are said to be a Canaanite nation, descended from Ham according to Philo (De Vita Mosis 1.1).  They are associated with the Nephilim (Numbers 13:28-33) just as the Merovingians who claim descent from the beast from the sea.  The doctrine of adherents to the Merovingian bloodline is that Messiah Jesus isn’t YHWH in the flesh and claim the Bible is full of errors which lines up with the aforementioned character of Amalek by translators of the Targums.  For more details see:

Mark of the Beast 10 – The Holy Grail

In Hebrew, Amalek is spelled עמלק.

ע – Ayin – Eye
מ – Mem – Water
ל – Lamed – Staff
ק – Qof – Horizon

Ayin (looking towards) qof (horizon, sea, west)  Mem (water) lamed (staff, gathering).  The picture formed by the word Amaleq is the gathering (לק laq) of the people (עם am) which come from the sea…ie the beast from the sea (Revelation 13).

This warfare between Messiah and Amalek is the epitome of the warfare between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent promised in the beginning (Genesis 3:15).  This spiritual war has lasted since the beginning but has already been won by Messiah Jesus.  For more on this see:
