Random Word – Angel Food

Random Word Angel Food

Today’s random word is אכילה ‘akiylah’ and is only used one time in Scripture in reference to the food which Elijah ate which an Angel gave him (1 Kings 19:5-8).  אכילה ‘akiylah’ comes from the word אכל ‘akal’ which means food, or to eat.  The parent root of both words is כל ‘kol’ which means complete or whole.  אכל ‘akal’ comes from this root because food is that which sustains man and make him whole and satisfied.

akiylah

Why was אכילה ‘akiylah’ used in 1 Kings 19:18 and not אכל ‘akal’ as is the case throughout the rest of the Scriptures?  Perhaps it has to do with the letters י ‘yod’ and ה ‘heh’ which were added to the word אכל ‘akal.’  י ‘yod’ and ה ‘heh’ are the first two letters of the name of God.  The food of Yah?

Elijah ate food delivered by an angel which links to the manna which YHWH gave Israel in the wilderness which is described in the Scriptures as angel’s food (Psalm 78:25).  Messiah describes this manna in the wilderness as a shadow picture which points to Him, the Bread of Life (John 6:30-51).
Elijah went without food for forty days while he dwelt at Mount Horeb, just like Moses did centuries before him (Exodus 24:18; 34:28).  It was during this time that Moses received the Tables of the Covenant which had written upon them the Ten Commandments (Deuteronomy 9:9-11) but Israel rebelled against YHWH during this time and made a molten calf (Deuteronomy 9:12-14).  The commandments were written in stone, but not in their hearts.
Elijah abode in the Mount as Moses did when the Word of YHWH came to Him in the form of a “still, small voice” (1 Kings 19:12).  This points to the Spirit of the Law, written on the tablets of man’s hearts (2 Corinthians 3:6) which is given after we accept the body of Messiah (John 6:33, 51) and enter into the new covenant (Matthew 26:26-28; Jeremiah 31:31-34; John 16:13; Ezekiel 11:19-20; 36:26-27; Jeremiah 24:7; Deuteronomy 4:30; 30:2-3; Proverbs 3:1-6; Isaiah 30:20-21).
YHWH gave Israel manna in the wilderness to test them and teach them that man doesn’t live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds forth from Him (Deuteronomy 8:2-6).  When Jesus was fasting in the wilderness for forty days, as Moses and Elijah had done before Him, He quoted this Scripture in Deuteronomy 8.
Mat 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
