Why Does it Rain?

Creation Moments: Why Does it Rain?

Job 36:27-29
“For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: Which the clouds do drop [and] distil upon man abundantly. Also can [any] understand the spreadings of the clouds, [or] the noise of his tabernacle?”

“In grade school we were taught how temperature, dew point and moisture in a cloud could condense around a tiny ice crystal to form a drop of rain. But scientists are not really all that sure how raindrops form.

The problem is that the particles of mist in the cloud are all negatively charged. Since their charges are all the same, mist particles don’t attract one another; they repel one another so it should never rain.

Some scientists have suggested that radioactive radon gas is responsible for changing this state of affairs in the cloud so that rain is formed. As the radon decays, absorbed by the droplets, it adds a positive charge to them. Because their charges are different than the surrounding negatively charged droplets, they begin to attract each other and soon the droplet has become large enough to fall as a raindrop. Unsure of this theory, other scientists are staying with the ice crystal theory.

Modern science often offers its conclusions with a very sure-sounding voice. But the fact is, scientists are unsure of many things, including the simple problem of why it rains. That’s why we shouldn’t get too worried when some scientist claims to have discovered something which he says proves the Bible to be in error.”

The Holy Scriptures declare that the LORD God is the giver of rain:

Psa 147:8  who covers the heavens with clouds; who prepares rain for the earth; who makes grass to grow on the mountains.
Mat 5:45  so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven. Because He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and unjust.

Job 5:8  Truly, I would seek to God, and to God I would put my plea,
Job 5:9  who is doing great things, and there is no searching them; marvelous things to which is no numbering,
Job 5:10  giving rain on the face of the earth and sending water on the face of the field;
Job 36:27  For He draws up the drops of water; they distill rain into mist,
Job 36:28  which the clouds drip down, and drop upon men plentifully.
Job 36:29  Also can any understand the spreading of the clouds, the crashing of His canopy?

Job 38:25  Who has cut a channel for the flood; or a way for the thunderclaps,
Job 38:26  to make it rain on the earth where no man is, a wilderness and no man in it;
Job 38:27  to satisfy the waste and desolation, and to cause the source of grass to sprout?
Job 38:28  Is there a father for the rain? Or who has given birth to the drops of dew?

Isa 5:4  What more could have been done to My vineyard that I have not done in it? Who knows? I waited for it to yield grapes, but it yielded rotten grapes.
Isa 5:5  And now I will make known to you what I will do then to My vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be burned. I will breach its wall, and it will become a trampling ground.
Isa 5:6  And I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but briers and thorns shall come up. And I will command the clouds from raining rain on it.
Amo 5:8  He who created the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the deep darkness into the morning, and He darkened the day into night; who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth, Jehovah is His name;

Psa 65:9  You visit the earth and water it; You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water. You provide their grain, for in this way You have prepared it.
Psa 65:10  You fill its terraces with water. You deepen its furrows. You make it soft with showers. You bless the sprouting of it.
Psa 65:11  You crown the year of Your goodness, and Your paths drip with fatness.
Psa 65:12  The pastures of the wilderness drop, and the little hills gird themselves with joy.
Psa 65:13  The meadows are outfitted with flocks; the valleys are also covered with grain; they shout for joy and sing.

Psa 104:13  He waters the hills from His upper rooms; the earth is satisfied from the fruit of Your works.
Psa 104:14  He causes the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for the service of man, to bring food out of the earth.

Act 14:17  though indeed He did not leave Himself without witness, doing good, giving rain and fruitful seasons to us from heaven, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

The Rain is a shadow picture of Messiah:

The study of weather is known as meteorology which traces back to the Hebrew word  מטר ‘matar’ which means rain.  Rain is an amazing shadow picture that points to Christ Jesus.

גשם ‘geshem’ comes from the root שם ‘shem’ which means breathe/character/name.

His Name is His Word
Rev 19:13  and having been clothed in a garment which had been dipped in blood. And His name is called The Word of God.

Interestingly, גשם ‘geshem’ is translated as ‘body’ 5 times in the Scriptures (Daniel 4:33; 5:21; 7:11 & 3:27-28).

Heb 10:5  For this reason, coming into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but You prepared a body for Me.
Heb 10:6  You did not delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices concerning sins.”
Heb 10:7  “Then I said, Lo, I come, in the heading of the Book it was written concerning Me, to do Your will, O God.”
LXX-Psa. 39:7 -9; MT-Psa. 40:6 -8

The Word is likened unto rain

Deu 32:2  My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

The root word for Torah has the meaning of rain

1Ki 8:36  then You shall hear in Heaven, and shall forgive the sin of Your servants, and of Your people Israel, for You shall teach
(ירה ‘yarah’) them the good way in which they shall go, and shall give rain on Your land which You have given to Your

Isa 55:10  For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Isa 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The Messiah and His coming is likened unto rain:

Psa 72:1  <A Psalm for Solomon.> Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.
Psa 72:2  He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.
Psa 72:3  The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.
Psa 72:4  He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
Psa 72:5  They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
Psa 72:6  He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
Isa 45:8  Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
Hos 6:3  Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

Coming in the clouds

Psa 68:32  Sing to God, kingdoms of the earth, praises to the Lord. Selah.
Psa 68:33  To Him who rides on the heavens of heavens of old; lo, He gives forth His voice, a mighty voice.
Psa 68:34  Give might to God over Israel; His majesty and His strength in the clouds.

Psa 77:14  You are the God who does wonders; You have revealed Your strength among the peoples.
Psa 77:15  You have redeemed Your people with Your arm, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
Psa 77:16  The waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You; they were afraid; yea, the deeps trembled.
Psa 77:17  The clouds poured out water; the skies uttered a voice; and Your arrows flew out.
Psa 77:18  The voice of Your thunder in the tempest; lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked!
Psa 77:19  Your way is in the sea; and Your path is in the great waters; and Your footsteps are not known.

Psa 97:2  Clouds and darkness are all around Him; righteousness and judgment are the foundation of His throne.
Psa 97:3  A fire goes before Him and burns up His enemies all around.
Psa 97:4  His lightnings lit up the world; the earth saw and trembled.
Psa 97:5  The mountains melted like wax before the face of Jehovah, before the face of Jehovah of the whole earth.
Psa 97:6  The heavens declare His righteousness and all the people see His glory.
