Daily Tidbits 4/22/12 – 2nd Month Ziv/Iyar

Ziv is the second month, and the name means brightness. The sun is getting its strength back. The Targum calls it the splendor of flowers.

Solomon laid the foundation of the Lord’s house in that month. Ages later they started the second house in the same one. The word shows up thirteen times, and thirteen is echad — one. The second letter is bet, a house. Even the corner of a building comes from the same root. Christ is that stone. We are the ones fitted onto Him, a place for God to live, members of His body.

Iyar traces back to light. Out of darkness a light shines, and the brightness is the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus. Flowers, a foundation, one house.

The 2nd month of the year in the Biblical calendar is known as זו ‘ziv’ which means brightness or splendor, in reference to the strengthening sun of Spring and the ‘splendor of flowers‘ as the Targum calls it. The 2nd month is also referred to as איר ‘Iyar’ which has a similar meaning.

The building of the Temple.
1Ki 6:1  And it happened in the four hundred and eightieth year from the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in the fourth year, in the month of Zif, it is the second month, in the reigning of Solomon over Israel he built the house for Jehovah.
1Ki 6:37  The house of Jehovah was founded in the fourth year, in the month of Zif.
On the first day of Iyar, King Solomon began the construction of the First Temple

On the same month, hundreds of years later, construction of the Second Temple began (Ezra 3:8).

זו ‘ziv’ is used 13 times in Scripture (H2097 1 time and H2098 12 times), linking back to the tribes of Israel, who are His temple/house.

His body
Isa 42:24  Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

13 is also the numerical value of the Hebrew word אחד ‘echad’ which means ‘one.’  The 2nd month of the year further links to His body in unity as the 2nd letter of the Aleph – Bet is ב ‘bet’ which means house.

The House of God is the Church

IYYAR
Iyar in Hebrew is אִייָר or אִיָּר, said to trace back to the Akkadian ayyaru, meaning ‘Rosette’; ‘blossom.’

איר ‘iyar’ ultimately traces back to the Hebrew word אר which means ‘light.’  אור ‘ohr’ which means light has the numerical equivalent of 207 which corresponds with the Greek phrase εν δοζη ‘en doxa’ which means ‘in glory.’

2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
