The Presidents Code – Vice President John Adams
Under the system that was then in place, each elector in the Electoral College cast two votes, one for President and one for Vice President. The candidate with a majority of electors became the President and the runner up became Vice President. Washington received all of the electoral votes for the 1788 and 1792 elections with the second vote majority going to John Adams both times. As a result, Adams would sit as Vice President throughout Washington’s tenure as President. Adams would also become the first of 14 Vice Presidents who were elected as President.
John Adams was a picture of man, ‘Adam,‘ being placed in the Garden by the Almighty (Genesis 2:8, 15).
John comes from the Hebrew name יוֹחָנָן ‘yochanan’ meaning the grace or camp of Yah. This ‘camp of Yah’ is referring to believers in God and the land in which they live (Revelation 20:9; Hebrews 12:22-23; Psalm 89:7; Acts 20:28).
Adams comes from the Hebrew name אדם ‘adam’ meaning man. Here we see God, putting Adam in the Garden of Eden, His ‘camp.’
Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
As Adams became the next President, we will discuss more connections to his life in the article on his Presidency.
