The Presidents Code – The Bill Clinton Presidency

President Bill Clinton 1/20/1993-1/20/2001
President Bill Clinton 1/20/1993-1/20/2001

Bill Clinton’s name meaning is speaking of the message of the prophets of repentance unto salvation, otherwise the wrath of God unto exile would occur. The prophets admonished the people to ‘break up their fallow ground’ so that the Word of God could enter their hearts and lead unto life and happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Bill is a diminutive of William from the Germanic name ‘Willahelm,’ which is composed of the words ‘wil’ meaning will or desire and ‘helm’ meaning helmet or protection. This name points to protection from enemies, temporal and spiritual.

Most importantly, this name depicts the desire of man to put on the ‘helmet of salvation.’ This ‘helmet of salvation’ is Jesus Christ (Isaiah 59:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:8; Ephesians 5:23; 6:17; Colossians 1:18). It is through the message of the prophets, whose life Clinton depicts, that mankind is prepared for the Messiah (1 Peter 1:11). This ‘helmet’ is the hope of which leads man to salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:8; 1 Timothy 1:1). The phrase ‘helmet of salvation’ comes from Isaiah 59:17. This chapter depicts the story of Israel, in particular the days of the kings and prophets. Man’s iniquities had separated him from God (Isaiah 59:1-17), preventing them from knowing the way of peace (Isaiah 59:8). There was no man who could save them so the Lord saved them by Himself, redeeming them from transgression through His covenant (Isaiah 59:16-21). This will be discussed in more detail throughout this article.

Jefferson is from the Medieval name Geoffrey which is from a French form of a Germanic name.  The first part is from either ‘gawia’ meaning territory, ‘walah’ meaning stranger or ‘gisil’ meaning hostage and the second part is from ‘frid’ meaning peace.

Here we see Israel, who desired peace but would not walk in His ways in order to attain it (Isaiah 48:18-22; Deuteronomy 32:1-43; Psalm 81:10-15; Luke 19:41-42).  Hence, a stranger entered into their territory and took them hostage. This points to the time period of the kings and prophets. The prophets were sent by the Most High to warn Israel and lead them into the way of peace but the people rebelled and were sent into exile (Isaiah 59:8).

Bill Clinton’s original last name was Blythe which comes from an Old English surname meaning cheerful.  Here we see the message of the prophets. They were sent to warn Israel of their sins, to admonish them to repent and turn to righteousness or receive judgment for their wickedness. After the sentence of judgment was described, the path of repentance and restoration was given as hope that even in judgment and exile, His people could and would be saved (Jeremiah 3:12-22; 4:1-4; 23:3-8; 29:12-14; 30:11; 31:20; 33:26; Isaiah 10:21-27; 14:24-25; 44:22; 52:7-15; Ezekiel 20:32-44; 33:11; Hosea 6:1; 14:1-3; Joel 2:18-22; Amos 9:7-15; Micah 7:18-20; Zephaniah 3:1-20; Zechariah 8:9-23).

Clinton is from a surname which was originally from an Old English place name meaning ‘settlement on the River Glyme.’ The River Glyme is a river in Oxfordshire, England. It is a tributary of the River Evenlode. The river’s name is derived from the Brythonic word meaning ‘bright stream.’

A ‘bright stream’ describes the Hebrew concept of ‘breaking up your fallow ground.’  The Hebrew word for light, ניר ‘niyr,’ is literally a picture of a farmer breaking up fallow ground which reveals the water beneath that reflects the light of the sun. The prophets speak of this breaking up of the fallow ground as the unrepentant heart of carnal man being broken in order for God’s Word to be implanted within (Jeremiah 4:1-7; Hosea 10:9-15). This is a description of circumcision of the heart and being born again (Deuteronomy 10:16; 30:6, Jeremiah 31:33; 32:39-40; Ezekiel 11:19-20; Romans 2:28-29; Colossians 2:11-13; John 3:3-5; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 3:9; James 1:18-21; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:10-11; Galatians 6:15-16; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Bill Clinton’s Presidency pictures the time period of the Kings and Prophets of Israel. The message that went forth from the prophets of judgment if the people would not repent and restoration if repentance would come after the judgment. Herein lies the character of Bill Clinton. He is a self described sinner that proclaims the grace of God as the only way of overcoming this state.

Clinton comeback kid2

Throughout his life, Clinton seems to always ‘bounce back’ from mistakes and adversity. He gained the nickname ‘Comeback Kid’ as a result of this seemingly uncanny ability of being able to rise up after falling down. He came from a lowly estate to great heights only to fall and rise over and over again. This theme of falling and rising again would continue throughout his life. This is the story of Israel (Psalm 106:1-48).

clinton hope arkansas

Bill Clinton was born in a place called Hope, Arkansas. He alluded to this ‘Hope’ in the conclusions of both his acceptance speeches for Presidential nominee of the Democratic party.

“My fellow Americans, I end tonight where it all began for me- I still believe in a place called Hope. God bless you, and God Bless America.” {1992 Democratic National Convention}

“My fellow Americans, after these four good, hard years, I still believe in a place called Hope, a place called America.” {1996 Democratic National Convention}

Hope is the message of the Bible (Psalm 119:49-50, 81, 114; 130:5-8), in particular the message of the prophets whose days are depicted in the life of Bill Clinton (Jeremiah 29:11-14; Isaiah 51:4-16). The hope of which the Bible speaks is the resurrection, rising again from the dead (Ezekiel 37:11-14; 1 Peter 1:3, 18-25; Titus 1:1-2; 3:5-7; Acts 2:22-39; 23:6; 24:14-15; 1 John 3:2-3).

Rising after falling, this is the story of Bill Clinton. Mankind is saved through this hope (Romans 8:16-39) which is perhaps why the Lord allowed Bill Clinton to rise to such a high rate of popularity after the scandal with Monica Lewinsky. This was a way of depicting the story of His people who were brought low because of spiritual adultery (Jeremiah 9:2; 23:10; Hosea 7:4; Malachi 3:5; James 4:4), yet destined to rise to great heights (Deuteronomy 26:19; 28:1, 12-13; Psalm 18:43; 72:11; Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; Revelation 2:26) as a result of repentance and hope in His grace and mercy (Ephesians 1:16-23; 4:4-16; Romans 8:20-30).

Clinton’s name meaning depicts the message of the prophets of ‘breaking up your fallow ground.’ This breaking up of the ground is an allusion to circumcision of the heart (Ezekiel 11:19-20; 36:26-27; Romans 2:29; Colossians 2:11-13) or being born again (John 3:3-5; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 3:9; James 1:18-21; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:10-11; Galatians 6:15-16; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

Jeremiah 4:3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

clinton new covenant

This circumcision of the hearts is a part of the new covenant that is promised to His people (Jeremiah 31:33; 32:39-40; Ezekiel 11:19-20; Romans 2:28-29; Colossians 2:11-13). Interestingly, Bill Clinton used this term ‘new covenant’ throughout his 1992 speech at the Democratic National Convention. Clinton spoke of this ‘new covenant’ as a ‘new approach to government,’ a ‘new agreement between the people and their government.’ Clinton defined this ‘new covenant’ as the ‘common community’ of America.

“But the New Covenant is about more than opportunities and responsibilities for you and your families. It’s also about our common community…But this is America. There is no them. There is only us. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. That is our Pledge of Allegiance, and that’s what the New Covenant is all about.”

While many saw Bill Clinton’s use of the term new covenant in description of his vision of America as blasphemous and a corruption of the Biblical New Covenant, in many regards it does depict the message of the Bible. Unity comes about through a common hope in God’s mercy and grace unto resurrection (Ephesians 4:4-16; 1 John 3:2-3). This is accomplished through His New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31; Hebrews 8:8; 9:15; 12:24), cut in the body of Messiah Jesus (Matthew 26:28; Isaiah 49:8), causing circumcision of the heart and rebirth to those who enter into this covenant by faith.

Continuing with the message of the prophets of ‘breaking up your fallow ground’ is Clinton’s last name meaning. Clinton literally means a ‘bright stream.’ A ‘bright stream’ links to the Hebrew concept of ‘breaking up your fallow ground’ as mentioned earlier. The Hebrew word for light is ניר ‘niyr,’ which literally pictures a farmer breaking up fallow ground which causes the water beneath to reflect the light of the sun.

Adam was cursed to work the ground, getting bread from the sweat of his brow (Genesis 3:19). This is a depiction of breaking up the fallow ground. Plowing in Hebrew is displayed in the word אל ‘el’ which also means God. אל ‘el’ literally means the ‘strong authority’ which was displayed in ancient times as an oxen in the yoke plowing a field. An older, more experienced ox would be teamed up, or yoked with a younger, less experienced ox. The older ox in the yoke is the “strong authority” who, through the yoke, teaches the younger ox. In Hebrew thought, God is the more experienced ox to whom we are to be yoked with (Matthew 11:29-30).

When Adam took of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he was proclaiming he wanted to be his own god and so was cursed to plow the field with much difficulty, no longer yoked with Almighty God. The message of the entire Bible is based upon this concept. Man, in rebellion, is separated from God. But God, in His unfathomable love desires man to be reunited to Him. This occurs through the gift of His Son, who pays the price for man’s sin and offers him the way back to relationship with the Almighty. The way back to be yoked with Him.

Man can walk with an unrepentant heart with the yoke of slavery caused by sin (Leviticus 26:13-16; Deuteronomy 28:47-48; Jeremiah 5:5-6) or man can repent, have his heart circumcised and walk in the yoke of Christ.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

It is said that Bill Clinton lived a troubled childhood where he learned to portray an external life of happiness while keeping a secret internal life where his pain resided. This is the initial character trait of Clinton that points to Israel during the days of the Kings and Prophets. Israel was externally religious, worshiping at the Temple which was built to the Name of God. However, they did secretly those things which were not right against their God (2 Kings 17:9; Ezekiel 8:12). It was these secret things which the prophets exposed and admonished the people to repent of. It is these secret things which led to their exile.

clinton JFK

As a teenager, Clinton met and shook hands with then President John F. Kennedy. This meeting with Kennedy was said to have made a profound influence upon Clinton. At the National Prayer Breakfast in 1993, Clinton spoke of this influence.

“We need our faith as a source of challenge because if we read the Scriptures carefully, it teaches us that all of us must try to live by what we believe or, in more conventional terms, to live out the admonition of President Kennedy that here on Earth God’s work must truly be our own.”

John F. Kennedy‘s Presidency pictured the second generation of Israel whose days are strongly associated with the time period of the Kings and Prophets. Both generations had a mixture of faithful believers and rebellious idolaters. On a personal level, Kennedy is strongly linked to Clinton through their extra marital affairs as well. Yet in both Presidencies, the theme of God’s grace overcoming man’s sin is seen.

It was during JFK’s Presidency that Martin Luther King was raised up as a picture of the righteous people of Israel. Apart from Kennedy, King’s ‘I Have a Dream Speech’ was the second most influential thing in Clinton’s formative years. MLK’s speech impressed Clinton enough that he said he later memorized it.

Bill Clinton, like George Bush before him, graduated from Yale. Clinton graduated with a law degree which also connects to the time period of the Kings and Prophets. While Israel was in a state of rebellion against the Most High, yet they still ‘held’ to the law that was given to them at Mt. Sinai. They ‘handled the law’ yet they knew not the Most High, prophesying by Baal and in reality rejecting His Word (Jeremiah 2:8; 8:8-9). They corrupted the image of God and formed Him into an idol after their own heart’s desire (Jeremiah 2:11-13; Malachi 2:2-17). Israel did not believe they were in transgression, yet the Lord said they were committing spiritual adultery (Jeremiah 2:20-37).

Bill and Hillary

Bill Clinton ran for President in 1992 against incumbent George Bush. The main issue of the election was the economy and the weak state thereof. This points to the days of the famine which occurred during Ahab and Jezebel. Interestingly enough, Bill and Hillary Clinton depict Ahab and Jezebel quite well. Bill Clinton bragged that if Americans would vote for him, they would be getting ‘two for the price of one’ indicating that Hillary was just as much of Presidential material as himself. This corresponds with the ‘dual rule’ of Israel by Ahab and Jezebel.

Hillary Clinton was the first wife to have an office in West Wing. This points to Jezebel who was the most powerful ‘first lady’ in Israel’s history. Hillary Clinton also consulted psychics while in the White House which corresponds with the Baal worship which Jezebel brought to the nation (1 Kings 16:31-33).  Hillary Clinton was said to have influenced her husband in a number of issues, just as Jezebel did Ahab (1 Kings 21:25).    Another interesting connection is seen in In 1 Kings 21:5-19 where an account of a corrupt ‘land deal’ is discussed involving Ahab and Jezebel, paralleling the Whitewater scandal of the Clintons.

Ross Perot

Ross Perot also ran for President in 1992 gaining nearly 20% of the vote making him the most successful third party candidate since Theodore Roosevelt in 1912. He ran on a platform of exposing the corruption of Washington. His name meaning is pointing to the prophet Elijah, who rose to prominence in Israel by exposing the corruption of the government.

Ross comes from the Gaelic word ‘ros’ meaning a ‘headland.’ This corresponds with the Hebrew word גלעד ‘gilad’ (Gilead) which was the land from whence Elijah came (1 Kings 17:1).

His last name, Perot is of French origin deriving from the name ‘Pierre.’ Pierre traces back further to the Greek name Πέτρος ‘Petros’ (Peter) meaning a rock. In Matthew 16:18 we see Jesus declaring to Peter, or ‘Petros,’ that His church would be founded upon a rock and the gates of hell would not be able to prevail against it. He made this declaration at Caesarea Philippi which was at the Southwest base of Mt. Hermon. This was a ‘sacred’ place of ancient Mystery religion worship. Here Messiah was setting the battleground between the true faith of God versus the mixed counterfeit version of the Mystery Religions. This is what we see in the life of Elijah who went to battle against the false prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel (1 Kings 18:19-40).

Clinton first inaugural

In his first Inaugural Address, Clinton spoke of a time of change, a renewal of America. The time of the kings and prophets was indeed a change from the days of David and Solomon (Jeremiah 2:36).

He ended his Inaugural speech with the following words which display a strong connection to the theme of his Presidency.

“And so, my fellow Americans, at the edge of the 21st century, let us begin with energy and hope, with faith and discipline, and let us work until our work is done. The scripture says, ‘And let us not be weary in well-doing, for in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not.’

From this joyful mountaintop of celebration, we hear a call to service in the valley. We have heard the trumpets. We have changed the guard. And now, each in our way, and with God’s help, we must answer the call.”

The Scripture of which Clinton refers to comes from the Epistle of Paul to the Galatians (Galatians 6:9-10). The interesting connection here is that the preceding verses speak of man reaping that which he has sown. Clinton’s Presidency was defined by his sowing to the flesh and the corruption which resulted in his being impeached.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

When Clinton took his oath and swore on the Bible, it was opened to these very verses. According to the Library of Congress, Galatians 6:8 was the verse that Bill Clinton was pointing to.

It was during the days of the kings that Israel sowed to the flesh and in so doing they reaped corruption (Ezekiel 20:44; 23:11). It was during these days that the prophets were sent to speak to them the words of the Spirit which lead to repentance and resurrection to life eternal.

We have heard the trumpets. We have changed the guard.” The sounding of trumpets was used during the time period of the kings to signify the transfer of power from one king to the next (1 Kings 1:34, 39; 2 Kings 9:13; 11:14). The message of the prophets was also likened to the sounding of a trumpet (Jeremiah 6:17; Ezekiel 33:2-6; Isaiah 58:1-2).

clinton gore

Bill Clinton picked environmentalist Al Gore as his running mate. This is yet another connection to the days of the Kings. In his book, Earth in the Balance written in 1993, on page 161 Al Gore stated:

The Earth is our mother, and we are all her children.”

This is the essence of the environmental movement, Mother Earth worship. This points to the days of the Kings when Israel worshiped the Queen of Heaven, or ‘Mother Earth.’

Jeremiah 7:18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

Bill Clinton’s budget plan led to an economic boom, one of greatest in the nation’s history. For the first time in 30 years there was a Federal surplus. So too, while Israel worshiped the Queen of Heaven they experienced temporal prosperity (Jeremiah 44:17-19, 25).

clinton health

Perhaps the greatest policy failure of the Clinton Presidency was his attempt at Healthcare Reform. Along with his wife, the Clinton’s attempted to bring about a form of ‘universal healthcare’ to the country for the first time in its history. Their unsuccessful attempts at healthcare reform display in parable form the ‘health’ problem of Israel during the time of the Kings and Prophets. The wickedness of Israel which caused their exiles is likened unto a bruise or a health problem (Jeremiah 6:14; 8:11-12, 22; Ezekiel 13:10). The ‘healing’ of the nation would only occur by the hand of the Lord Himself. This is interesting to note as the first time a universal health care bill would be instituted in the United States happened during the Obama administration, whose Presidency pictures the days of Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 30:12 For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.

Jeremiah 30:13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.

Jeremiah 30:14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.

Jeremiah 30:15 Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.

Jeremiah 30:16 Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

Jeremiah 30:17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.

Jeremiah 30:18 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.

clinton brady bill

In 1993, Bill Clinton signed the Brady Bill which instituted federal background checks on purchasers of firearms as well as the Federal Assault Weapons ban in 1994. Many see these bills as an attack on the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights which gives Americans the right to keep and bear arms. Interestingly, the 10 Bill of Rights seem to correspond with the 10 Commandments given at Mt. Sinai when one looks at them in light of this President’s Code. The Second Amendment right of keeping and bearing arms would correspond with the second commandment to not commit idolatry. It was during the days of the kings that idolatry became prevalent amongst the people (1 Kings 12:28-33; 14:15, 23; 16:31-33; 22:53; 2 Kings 17:10, 16; Jeremiah 8:2). This Bill of Rights – Ten Commandments correlation is discussed in more detail in the articles on the George W. Bush and Barack Obama Presidencies..

dont ask2

Bill Clinton issued the policy of ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ in regards to the service of homosexuals in the military. The controversy over homosexuality in America is a picture of the corruption of the priesthood during the history of Israel. Homosexuality is associated with the sin of sodomy, depicted in the acts of the wicked men of Sodom (Genesis 19:5) and is expressly forbidden by God (Deuteronomy 23:17). Literally, sodomy in the Hebrew means a ‘cult prostitute,’ speaking of the immoral sexual acts performed by the priests of the Mystery religions.

It was during the days of the Kings that sodomites flourished in the land of Israel (1 Kings 14:24; 15:12; 22:46; 2 Kings 23:7; Hosea 4:14). Clinton’s policy depicts the illegitimate priesthood instituted by Jeroboam after the House of Israel split (1 Kings 12:31; 13:33). The controversy over the rights of homosexuals in this country has continued through the Presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Their Presidencies depict the days of the second temple in which the priesthood was also corrupted, albeit in much more veiled way than the days of the Kings and Prophets.

clinton yeltsin

In the parables of the Presidencies of Truman to Reagan, the Cold War represented Israel’s battles to conquer the Promised land. In George H.W. Bush‘s Presidency a friendship between America and Russia was formed which depicted the time in which Israel mixed with the nations around them and joined in their religious beliefs as seen in the account of the foreign wives of Solomon. In Clinton’s Presidency this is further depicted in the friendship between Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin. During the time period of the Kings of Israel a continuance of the mixture between Israel and the foreign nations around them is seen. Israel had mixed the worship of the true God with the rituals of the Mystery religions (1 Kings 16:30; 18:4, 18; 2 Kings 17:15-16, 27-28, 33-41; 23:4-5; 2 Chronicles 33:7; Jeremiah 2:9-13; 7:8-11; 9:13-14; 11:17; 12:16; 16:1-21; 19:5; 23:13, 27; Hosea 2:13-17; Zephaniah 1:4-5; Nehemiah 9:26).

Israel’s backsliding into the worship rituals of the heathen led to the dividing of their nation and ended the power with which they had during the days of David and Solomon. In 1993, The Battle of Mogadishu occurred which depicts this weakening of the nation. Commonly known as ‘Black Hawk Down,’ American forces were sent into Somalia to help still a civil war in the country. During the operation, two U.S. helicopters were shot down which led to numerous American casualties and images on television of American troops being dragged through the streets. It was one of the most embarrassing and humiliating events in U.S. military history. Whereas Israel had military dominion over the surrounding nations during the days of David and Solomon, this diminished during the period of two houses and saw both houses eventually overcome and taken into exile.

clinton dayton peace

In 1995, in yet another military conflict, the U.S. joined NATO forces to help end the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Clinton led the Dayton peace accords to be signed and as a result was hailed as a peacemaker. This led to the establishment of the ‘Clinton Doctrine’ which was a declaration that the United States would use its military might to intercede between foreign nations in order to bring peace. This doctrine points to the proclamations of the false prophets who cried ‘peace, peace’ when there would be no peace (Jeremiah 6:14; 8:11; 14:13).

clinton oslo

Bill Clinton, more than any other President, was deeply involved in the peace making attempts between Israel and her neighbors. In the code, these attempts at peace picture events in the Bible surrounding the Temple. In September 1993, Bill Clinton was able to get PLO chairman Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin to sign the Oslo Accords which were to be the framework for future negotiations and relations between the Israeli government and Palestinians.

This was an ‘updated’ version of the Madrid Peace Conference signed during the Presidency of George H.W. Bush. The Madrid Conference agreement was a picture of the building of the Temple during the days of Solomon. The Oslo Accords picture the restoration of the Temple during the days of Jehoash (2 Kings 12:5, 12).

clinton jordan israel

In 1994, Clinton oversaw the signing of the Israel – Jordan Treaty of Peace which depicts yet another restoration of the Temple during the days of Josiah (2 Kings 22:5).

The Oslo Peace accords were brought to a halt after the assassination of Yitzchak Rabin in 1995. This is the same time period in which Newt Gingrich was elected as Speaker of the House. This pictures the time period of the destruction of the Temple and the exile of Israel into Babylon (2 Kings 25:8-11). Gingrich’s name literally speaks of the taking of Israel into a ‘new land.’

newt gingrich

Newt comes from Newton which means ‘new town.’ Gingrich comes from the German name ‘Gungerich’ which means a ‘powerful battle.’ This is a perfect depiction of Nebuchadnezzar’s destroying of the Temple and the exile of Israel into Babylon (2 Kings 24-25).

clinton wye river

In 1998, Bill Clinton oversaw the signing of the Wye River Memorandum between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat. This pictures the beginnings of rebuilding of the Temple during the days of Ezra (Ezra 3:10). In 2000, Clinton was a part of yet another peace summit between Israel and the PLO. This pictures the completion of the re-building of the temple during the days of Ezra (Ezra 6:15).

clinton terror

Bill Clinton’s Presidency saw numerous terrorist attacks on American soil which depict foreign invasions of the land of Israel. In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed which portrays the invasion of Assyria and the exile which ensued (2 Kings 15:29). In 1995, the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City occurred which lines up with the destruction of the Temple and the exile by Nebuchadnezzar (2 Kings 24:16).

newt gingrich contract

In 1995, Newt Gingrich was elected as Speaker of the House after the Republicans gained a majority in the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. Gingrich positioned himself as the ‘second head’ of the nation and the true leader in Washington. He came up with the ‘Contract with America’ which consisted of ten bills which were designed to reform the Federal Government. This points to the split of the house of Israel into two nations, the House of Judah and the House of Israel. The House of Israel consisted of ten tribes, corresponding with the ten bills of the Contract with America. The battles between Clinton and Gingrich depicted the wars between the two houses of Israel when the nation split (1 Kings 14:30; 15:6, 16, 32).

clinton monica

The feud between Clinton and Gingrich culminated over the budget, ultimately leading to a shutdown of the government. It was during this shutdown that an intern named Monica Lewinsky was able to get close to Clinton while paid employees were gone. The shutdown of the government led the nation to get behind Bill Clinton where he came out of the battle as the ‘good guy’ and catapulted him into being elected for a second term over Bob Dole. Clinton won in a landslide against Bob Dole, winning 70% of the electoral votes.

Here we see Bill Clinton in yet another comeback as his popularity rose after the battle with Newt Gingrich to win in a landslide over Bob Dole. However, another fall was to ensue when the Whitewater scandal arose again along with the Paula Jones lawsuit which led up to the affair with Monica Lewinsky being revealed. This series of events would end up in Clinton being impeached.

clinton second inaugural

In Bill Clinton’s second Inaugural address, his language connects on numerous occasions to the time period of Israel returning to the land of promise after exile in Babylon (Ezra 1:1-6; 2:1; Nehemiah 7:6-73).

Guided by the ancient vision of a promised land, let us set our sights upon a land of new promise.”

Clinton then proceeded to review American history, just as the Word was read by Ezra to the people when they returned to the land (Nehemiah 8:1, 18).

The promise of America was born in the 18th century out of the bold conviction that we are all created equal. It was extended and preserved in the 19th century, when our nation spread across the continent, saved the union, and abolished the awful scourge of slavery.

Then, in turmoil and triumph, that promise exploded onto the world stage to make this the American Century…At the dawn of the 21st century a free people must now choose to shape the forces of the Information Age and the global society, to unleash the limitless potential of all our people, and, yes, to form a more perfect union.”

The end of the 20th century began what is called the ‘information age’ due to the advent of the internet and other technology which has made the flow of information much faster and accessible than in any time in history. This points to the time period of Ezra who is said to have compiled the Bible during his days.

With a new vision of government, a new sense of responsibility, a new spirit of community, we will sustain America’s journey. The promise we sought in a new land we will find again in a land of new promise.”

It was during the days of Israel’s return to the Promised land that a new form of government was established. Israel was no longer a people ruled by kings. Israel would now have a ‘governor’ as their leader under the headship of a foreign king (Ezra 5:14; Nehemiah 5:14; 12:26; Haggai 1:1, 14; 2:2). This would continue through the time of the Persians, Greeks and Romans ruling over the land.

In this new land, education will be every citizen’s most prized possession. Our schools will have the highest standards in the world, igniting the spark of possibility in the eyes of every girl and every boy. And the doors of higher education will be open to all. The knowledge and power of the Information Age will be within reach not just of the few, but of every classroom, every library, every child.”

During the days of Ezra and Nehemiah, education became a foundational aspect of the society of Israel. It was a time when all the people were educated in the Word of God (Ezra 3:1; Nehemiah 8:1, 18) and when scribes, beginning with Ezra, rose to power in the nation (Ezra 7:6, 11-12, 21; Nehemiah 8:1, 4, 9, 13; 12:26, 36). According to history, it was during this time that synagogues were built in which people could go and hear the law. On Mondays, Thursdays and on the Sabbath, the Word was read. Weekly ‘Torah portions’ were established by Ezra in which the people could hear the entire Torah every three years with exposition by the scribes and later ‘rabbis.’

It was during this ‘intertestamental’ period of history, which occurred between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew that these scribes rose to even greater power. This is discussed in more detail in the article on George W. Bush.

Fellow citizens, let us build that America, a nation ever moving forward toward realizing the full potential of all its citizens. Prosperity and power — yes, they are important, and we must maintain them. But let us never forget: The greatest progress we have made, and the greatest progress we have yet to make, is in the human heart. In the end, all the world’s wealth and a thousand armies are no match for the strength and decency of the human spirit.

Thirty-four years ago, the man whose life we celebrate today spoke to us down there, at the other end of this Mall, in words that moved the conscience of a nation. Like a prophet of old, he told of his dream that one day America would rise up and treat all its citizens as equals before the law and in the heart. Martin Luther King’s dream was the American Dream. His quest is our quest: the ceaseless striving to live out our true creed. Our history has been built on such dreams and labors. And by our dreams and labors we will redeem the promise of America in the 21st century.”

In the code, the Civil Rights movement led by Martin Luther King pictured the giving of the law at Mt. Sinai. The time of Ezra and Nehemiah was a time in which Israel rededicated itself to God and sought to walk in His law (Ezra 3; Nehemiah 8; 9:38; 10:29). It was this zealousness for the law which gave rise to the ‘traditions of the elders’ which were rules set up as ‘fences’ to keep the people from breaking the law of God. Israel rightly saw that their punishment of exile from God came as a result of their rejection of His Word so they sought to establish a code of conduct amongst the people which would prevent this from happening again (Ezra 9:7-14; Nehemiah 9:26-38; 13:18; Zechariah 1:4-6).

Clinton likened the effort to build America according to the dream of Martin Luther King as ‘repairing the breach.’

“To that effort I pledge all my strength and every power of my office. I ask the members of Congress here to join in that pledge. The American people returned to office a President of one party and a Congress of another. Surely, they did not do this to advance the politics of petty bickering and extreme partisanship they plainly deplore. No, they call on us instead to be repairers of the breach, and to move on with America’s mission.”

This phrase ‘repairers of the breach’ comes from the words of the Prophet Isaiah, speaking of the message of the Lord to Israel to walk in justice and mercy towards one another (Isaiah 58:1-12). If they did this, they would build up the old waste places and raise up the nation once again. This is a clear connection to the time period of Ezra and Nehemiah when the Temple was rebuilt, the walls of the city were set up again and the society of Israel was restored (Ezra 3:10-12; 5:2, 15-17; 6:14-17; Nehemiah 4:6-7; 6:1; Daniel 9:25).

Isaiah 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

clinton affairs

Bill Clinton is known for his extra marital affairs with numerous women. This became painfully clear in his second term in office. These adulterous affairs of Clinton depict the spiritual harlotry which Israel committed during the days of the Kings (Jeremiah 2:20-26; 3:8-11; Ezekiel 16:15-63; 20:8, 44; 23:3-21; Isaiah 1:21; 57:8; Hosea 1:2).

It was Clinton’s adulterous affairs that led to his becoming only the second President in history to get impeached.

In 1994, Paula Jones brought forth a sexual harassment lawsuit which was initially dismissed but Jones appealed and her case was taken up by Kenneth Starr who was in the midst of investigating the Whitewater case against Clinton and Vincent Foster’s death.

The Whitewater investigation points to the ‘broken cisterns’ of which Israel had relied upon during the days of the Kings instead of the living waters of the Most High (Jeremiah 2:13, 18; 17:13). The Prophet Jeremiah associates this rejection of the living waters of God, with spiritual adultery (Jeremiah 2:20-37). This is interesting to note as it was the Whitewater case which led Starr to become involved with Paula Jones.

During the Jones investigation, Linda Tripp who befriended Monica Lewinsky, gave Starr information that Lewinsky was having an affair with Clinton which Starr used during the Jones harassment lawsuit. In his deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit, Clinton denied having ‘sexual relations’ with Monica Lewinsky. Kenneth Starr proved that Clinton’s deposition was ‘false and perjurious’ which led to his impeachment. It was the infamous stained dress of Monica Lewinsky which gave hard evidence of Clinton’s guilt. So too, Jeremiah speaks of the guilt of Israel being found in their ‘skirts’ (Jeremiah 2:34).

On December 19th 1998, the House of Representatives approved two articles of impeachment against President Clinton, one for perjury and the other for obstruction of justice. Clinton was acquitted however by the Senate on February 12th, 1999.

The word impeach comes from the Anglo French word ’empecher’ which means to hinder or prevent. This traces back further to the Latin word ‘impedicare’ which means to fetter or entangle. Literally, the shackling of the feet.

Here we seen in the word impeach, two major events during the period of the Kings and the days of Ezra and Nehemiah. The shackling of the feet points to the exile of Israel into Babylon which was mentioned previously as being linked to the rise of Newt Gingrich. The Monica Lewinsky affair took place as a result of the government shutdown which occurred during the battle over the budget between Clinton and Gingrich. During the government shutdown, government employees were not in the White House because they weren’t being paid whereas Lewinsky who was an unpaid intern was still working and was able to get closer to the President.

The hindering aspect of the word impeach connects to the period of time after Israel came back to the land of Israel after their exile in Babylon. It was during this time that they were ‘hindered’ from re-building the Temple (Ezra 4:1-24). However, just as Clinton was acquitted, so too Israel was not to be prevented from rebuilding the Temple (Ezra 6:1-15).

Hillary Clinton described the attempt to impeach her husband as a ‘vast right wing conspiracy.’ This is interesting to note as Scripture speaks of Israel’s rebellion during the days of the kings as a ‘conspiracy’ against the Lord (Jeremiah 11:9; Ezekiel 22:25).

Despite the affair with Monica Lewinsky and the impeachment trial which followed, Bill Clinton left the office of President with the highest approval rating of any President in modern history. This is yet another example of his character of a ‘Comeback Kid.’ This is the message of the Prophets who prophesied of punishment due to sin, but always gave the hope of restoration and regathering if the people would repent.

Bill Clinton did repent of his sin as he made a formal apology to the nation. He attributed his lying under oath about his adulterous affairs to his shame.

“What I want the American people to know, what I want the Congress to know, is that I am profoundly sorry for all I have done wrong in words and deeds. I never should have misled the country, the Congress, my friends and my family. Quite simply, I gave in to my shame.”

Bill Clinton’s adulterous affairs depict Israel’s spiritual harlotry which brought them shame. Clinton’s affairs, denials and shame when caught is perfectly displayed in the words of the Prophet Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 2:20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

Jeremiah 2:21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

Jeremiah 2:22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

Jeremiah 2:23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

Jeremiah 2:24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

Jeremiah 2:25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

Jeremiah 2:26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

As will be seen in the article on George H.W. Bush, shame is associated with the rebellion and consequent exiles of Israel. Israel, like all mankind, have been sinners. Yet, it is the promise of God’s grace and mercy that upholds them. This is the theme of Bill Clinton’s Presidency which is defined by his own words.

“My faith tells me that all of us are sinners, and each of us has gone in our own way and fallen short of the glory of God.”

After his affair with Monica Lewinsky, Clinton said the following:

“I have been profoundly moved, as few people have, by the pure power of grace, unmerited forgiveness through grace — most of all to my wife and daughter, but to the people I work with, to the legions of American people and to the God in whom I believe. And I am very grateful to all of you who have had any role in that.”

This is what is meant by the ‘Comeback Kid.’ Though man falls, yet he is never rejected if he reaches his hand up to the Lord (Psalm 37:24).

Bill Clinton is a perfect picture of Israel, especially during the days of the Kings and Prophets. Rebellious sinners like sheep who have gone astray. In their exile they cry out in repentance and the Good Shepherd brings them back into the fold. Exiled yet not forgotten, given the hope of the promise of redemption. This theme continues with the Presidency of George W. Bush. The ‘prodigal son’ who becomes born again.
