The Presidents Code – President Pro Tempore Richard Henry Lee
During the last session of the Senate in 1792, the majority went to the Anti-Administration camp which led to Richard Henry Lee being appointed as President Pro Tempore. He would lose this position in November as the Pro-Administration faction regained control.
Richard Henry Lee’s name continues the theme of Adam’s dominion.
Richard means brave power from the Germanic words ‘ric’ meaning ruler or power and ‘hard’ meaning brave.
Henry comes from the Germanic words ‘heim’ meaning home and ‘ric’ meaning power or ruler.
Lee comes from a surname which was derived from the Old English word ‘leah’ meaning clearing. A clearing in Hebrew is רחב ‘rachav’ which also means freedom. Here in Lee’s name is seen Adam, the brave ruler of the Garden of Eden.
