John Milledge became President Pro Tempore during the end of Thomas Jefferson‘s Presidency. He is yet another link between the Jefferson and Madison Presidencies. His name is pointing to the grace of God which He gave Adam and Eve despite of their rebellion. This is the theme of Madison‘s Presidency. The Promise of the Seed of woman who would defeat the serpent, bringing God’s grace and forgiveness to mankind (Ephesians 2:5-10).

John means the grace or camp of Yah, referring to either the land of God or His people or both.

Milledge comes from the Old English words ‘myln’ which meant a mill and ‘wic’ which meant a dairy farm or trading settlement. As mentioned previously, a dairy town points to the Garden of Eden.

Although Adam and Eve had sinned against God, He still showed His love and grace by covering them with skins to hide their nakedness (Genesis 3:21).

Milledge’s term as President Pro Tempore went to May 1809 which was two months into the Presidency of James Madison. Madison’s Presidency will be portraying the battle between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent spoken of in Genesis 3:15. The promise of the Seed of the woman is yet another example of God’s grace as Jesus Christ, the epitome of God’s grace and forgiveness, would fulfill this promise (John 1:14, 17).
