John Gaillard continued as President Pro Tempore from the end of James Madison‘s Presidency and into Monroe’s. This is yet another link between the two Presidencies and the meanings portrayed by them. His name meaning is pointing to the promise of the Seed of the woman and the joy which comes through victory in Him.

John means camp or grace of Yah. The grace of Yah, promised to come as the Seed of the woman is the theme of this chapter.

Gaillard is of Middle English origin and means to be brave and joyous. Adam and Eve were to be brave, trusting in God’s grace that He would give them victory over the serpent through their Seed. This Seed, Jesus Christ, would bring this victory and joy to all of mankind (Zechariah 9:9; Isaiah 12:3; 25:9; 1 John 1:3-4).
