Plants Focus Light

Creation Moments: Plants Focus Light

Psalm 1:1-3

“Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

“In many ways, a plant is like a machine that changes the energy of sunlight into food energy that is needed by the rest of the living world. The energy which runs the plant is light.

Now, if you were going to design a better, more efficient plant, how might you do it? Obviously, one way to improve a plant would be to create one that can do its job with less light. But remember, the plant cannot Cross section of a leaf through a microscopestore more energy than it receives. And if the plant was too sensitive to light, a strong dose of sunlight could kill it. The obvious solution is to outfit the plant with tiny lenses which focus even dim light into the chemical centers where photosynthesis takes place.

Due to man’s ignorance, modern science has often regarded plants as if they were simple, unsophisticated forms of life. Now scientists have discovered that many plants do indeed have special cells which focus and concentrate the available light into the very centers where it is needed. One plant’s shaded leaves were found to intensify available light by 26 times. And if the light gets so strong that it could damage the leaves, the light is focused onto cells which can absorb the extra light.

Plants are much more complex, higher-performance living things than we ever suspected. Plants incorporate designs based on a highly sophisticated knowledge of both chemistry and physics. What a wonderful witness they are to our Creator!”

The study Messiah in the Torah – Genesis 1:9-13 displays numerous connections between the plants that came forth on day 3 and the Messiah and His body.  Photosynthesis is a shadow picture which points to this connection.

The process of photosynthesis is a picture of the perfecting/maturing process.  Plants use carbon dioxide and water, mixed with the energy from light to produce food and oxygen.

Six molecules of water plus six molecules of carbon dioxide produce one molecule of sugar plus six molecules of oxygen.   This process is displayed in the following picture.

Light (Jesus the Word of God) is added to carbon which represents the flesh as carbon has the atomic number of 6, the number of flesh/man.  Water is added which represents the Word/Spirit.  This combination of mortal man receiving the waters of the Spirit/Word mixed with faith in Messiah Jesus brings forth “food/energy/sugar” and “oxygen” which represents resurrection/being born again as oxygen has the atomic number of 8 which is the number of rebirth/resurrection/eternity.

Another interpretation of photosynthesis can be applied to the washing of the body/clothes.  Our bodies produce sweat which is water that is odorless.  It is the mixture of bacteria that produces the stink of body odor.  Man must wash his clothes and body with soap (בר ‘bar’ – Son) or ‘receive the Light’.  This takes away the ‘stink’/ carbon and produces the sweet smelling odor of the saved who are in the Image of Messiah who is represented by the sweet smell of myrrh, aloes and cassia (Psalm 45:8; Song of Songs 1:3; Ephesians 5:2).

This connection between receiving the Holy Spirit (water) and changing of clothing (resurrection) is seen in baptism which is spoken of in more detail in the Messiah in the Torah – Genesis 1:9-13 study.

Jer 17:13  O LORD, the hope {מקוה ‘mikveh’ =collection of water/pool…baptism} of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth (John 8), because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Isa 61:10  I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
Rom 6:3  Or are you ignorant that all who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Rom 6:4  Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, so also we should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5  For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death, so also shall we be in the resurrection,
