Daily Tidbits 1/4/12 – Cassiopeia

Keeping in theme with previous tidbits of the week is the constellation of Cassiopeia which is pictured in the skies as an enthroned woman, representing the bride of Christ.  It is said she holds the keys (of the kingdom) in her hand and is alternatively represented with hair in her hand representing freedom.

Isa 22:22  And the key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder, so that he opens, and no one shuts; and he shuts, and no one opens.
Isa 22:23  And I will drive him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a throne of glory to his father’s house.
Isa 22:24  And they shall hang on him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the offshoots, all small vessels, from vessels of cups even to all vessels of jars.
Isa 22:25  In that day, says Jehovah of Hosts, the nail that is driven in the sure place shall be removed, and be cut down, and fall. And the burden that was on it shall be cut off. Jehovah has spoken.

This portion of Scripture is speaking of Messiah but also links to His bride, His body.

Adam Clarke commentary on Isaiah 22:22
Huetius says the constellation Cassiopeia answers to this description; the stars to the north making the curve part, that is, the principal part of the key; the southern stars, the handle. The curve part was introduced into the key-hole; and, being properly directed by the handle, took hold of the bolts within, and moved them from their places.

Rev 1:7  “Behold, He comes with the clouds,” and “every eye will see Him, and the ones who pierced” Him, and all the tribes of the earth “will wail on account of Him.” Yes, Amen. Dan. 7:13; Zech. 12:10

Mat 22:2  The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
Mat 22:3  And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

CASSIOPEIA, THE ENTHRONED WOMAN
“This is nothing less than a picture of the true Church of God lifted up out of all evils, bonds, and disabilities, and seated with her glorious Redeemer in heaven. The figure is that of a queenly woman, matchless in beauty, seated in exalted dignity, with her foot on the Arctic Circle, on which her chair likewise is set. In one hand she holds aloft the branch of victory and triumph, and with the other she is spreading and arranging her hair, as if preparing herself for some great public manifestation. Albumazer says this woman was anciently called ” the daughter of splendor,” hence ” the glorified woman.” Her common name is Cassiopeia, the beautiful, the enthroned; or, as Pluche derives the name, the Boundary of Typhon’s power, the Delivered from all evil. The  constellation itself is one of the most beautiful in the heavens.” {The Gospel in the Stars – Joseph Seiss pg 72}

In Arabic, the name of ‘Cassiopeia’ is ‘el seder’ which means ‘the freed’ (Isaiah 61:1).  In Egyptian her name is ‘set’ which means ‘the one set up as Queen’ (Psalm 45:9; Revelation 19:7-9; 21:9-12)  Cassiopeia means ‘the enthroned, the beautiful.’

The beginning of the word Cassiopeia (Cassio) traces back to the Hebrew word כסא ‘kasa’ which means a throne.

The ending of the word Cassiopeia (peia) has the meaning of ‘to create or produce,’ in specific relating to words.  For example, this is seen in the word prosopopeia which means to ‘make faces’ or put speech into the mouths of others or pharmacopeia meaning to make drugs.

In the top of her chair/throne is the star ‘caph’ which means ‘branch’ according to E.W. Bullinger.

We are the branches of the menorah
Joh 15:1  I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Joh 15:5  I am the vine, ye are the branches : He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Branches = Nazarenes
Act 24:5  For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
Jer 31:6  For there shall be a day, that the watchmen {נצרים ‘notsrim’ – original name of Christians} upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God.

כף ‘caph’ literally means the palm of the hand and is linked to the Vine.

Psa 80:14  O God of Hosts, we beg You, return! Look down from Heaven and see and visit this vine,
Psa 80:15  and the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, and on the son (KJV branch) You made strong for Yourself.

In the Hebrew text this word has an enlarged כ ‘kaf’ which represents the palm of the hand.
